Overlooking verdant fields Le Manoir nestles at the beginning of a pretty secluded valley in the heart of the French countryside in two and a half acres of meadow and woodland.

Climate:

In the Dordogne/Lot the weather is mild and warm from mid April, with a long hot summer. The mild weather extends through October when it can still be warm enough to enjoy eating out. The landscape is fresh and green, whereas the Mediterranean atmosphere is perceptibly present.

Your lasting impression will be one of colour, blue sky, red roofs, honey coloured stone buildings, emblazoned by the peaceful southern sun. All designed for you to have a happy holiday!

Food and wine:

Good food and wine are plentiful in an area well known for its gastronomy. Tasting local specialities – cabecou cheese, confits of goose, duck or port and fois gras – is an essential part of discovering the area.

Restaurants to suit every budget and all tastes are to be found in local villages and towns- our nearest is just ten minutes walk away. The wines from Bergerac and Cahors are excellent, while the Montbazillac is a good dessert wine.

Accommodation detail

The characteristic Country Manor has five guestrooms ( overlooking woodland and farmland ). All the rooms have been restored and decorated with much love and care. Most meals, including petit dejeuner are taken outside on the terrace. You will have the use of the pool and terraces.

About the location

In the quiet hamlet of La Forge, we are just three miles north west of Souillac, a popular market town, offering a good range of restaurants, shops, banks and many other facilities. The Dordogne river flows through the town on its languid way passing many areas of natural beauty in the Dordogne valley. This particularly liked region, with its gentle rolling hills, is steeped in culture and history enabling one to enjoy the magic of castles and medieval towns, such as the regional capital Sarlat and the famous town of the rocks; Rocamadour both within easy driving distance.

Chateaux and ancient "bastide" towns abound, built during the Hundred Years War in the fourteenth century. Within 30min. by car is Cahors with its famous bridge and wineries and also two of the famous "Beaux Villages de France", Collonge la Rouge and St Cirque la Popie. There are many exciting caves to visit including the well known prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Pech Merle with their fine examples of prehistoric cave paintings and artefacts.
