Mr and Mrs B from Scotland were the lucky winners of our competition run earlier this year with French, the monthly magazine. Their prize was a week’s stay in one of the luxury gites at the romantic 18th century Chateau de Percey, which is set in beautiful countryside in the famous wine region of Chablis, Burgundy.

Mr B reports: ‘We decided to take the car and extend our holiday by stopping off near Rheims for a couple of days and staying a week in the south of Burgundy for a week prior to our arrival in Percey.           
'The first thing to say is that owners Lara and Paul were very helpful and welcoming, and we found the gite extremely spacious and comfortable.  We weren’t able to get out to the entire list of places we had intended to visit, as I was recovering from an illness, but we enjoyed walking in the extensive grounds and, using the information supplied by Lara, we were able to find a wonderful bird reserve, Bas Rebourseaux, very close to Percey. We visited several times, and also enjoyed walking in the nearby forest. Unfortunately, we were just too early in the year to see the cranes which spend the winter in the vicinity.'
