It’s that time of the year when the weather starts to get better, flowers blossom under blue skies and loads of fabulous events take place. At French Connections we love the fact that in France there’s so much going on! Here we share some of our favourite events coming up in April.

Les Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art

European Days of Crafts – a chance for the public to meet artisans as almost 6000 events take place right across France. Workshops, exhibitions and demonstrations of artisan skills plus the opportunity for tours give you a chance to get up close to some of the country’s greatest craftsmen and women.

International Kite Festival, Berck-sur-Mer, Hauts de France

A sight that you’ll never forget will greet you as you arrive at this little northern French seaside resort. A sky filled with thousands of kites including the biggest and the best in the world as this important international festival takes place on the breezy beaches. This is one for all ages with lots to do and see but – the kites are certainly the stars here!

Grand Rederie d’Amiens, Amiens, Picardy

This is the second biggest flea market event in France (Lille Braderie first weekend of September is the biggest). Thousands flock to the flea market held in the shadow of the famous Cathedral of Amiens. With 2000 stall holders it’s a great day out and you may just find the bargain of the year if you go early in the morning!

Paris Marathon

60,000 runners from around the globe will take part in the 42.195km dash through the streets of the world’s favourite capital, starting at the elegant Avenue du Champs-Elysées.

Bourges Spring Festival, Bourges, Loire Valley

A major music event which takes place in this most charming city in the Loire. With a great atmosphere this ancient town rocks to the rhythm. There’s lots to see and do in Bourges but don’t miss the tea room in a Roman Tower – it’s very beautiful and very special.

Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival, Loire Valley

A bit like the Chelsea Flower Show meets Kew Gardens. It’s the biggest garden show in France and it lasts for months which means no crowds and loads of time to enjoy those amazing gardens and the chateau.

The Great Roman Games, Nimes

An extraordinary event which sees the return of the Roman Games to the awesome roman amphitheatre (which dates back to 70AD) in Nimes, south of France, if you’re not tempted to yell “I’m Sparticus” as chariots race by, I’ll eat my hat!

La Ferme de la Ferme

22 departments will take part in La Ferme de la Ferme. You can take part in fun and rustic open days at farms and meet the farmers, find out what goes on, help out and try products!

Foire de Paris, Paris

Each year the Paris Fair brings together thousands of exhibitors from all over France and around the world to promote their products from swimming pools to wine and food. A unique shopping experience and a must for bargain-hunters and shopping fanatics.
