Villa Sainte Marie is a charming little house on the fringes of Limoux set in a large shady, secluded, terraced, south-facing garden with an orchard and wonderful views. The countryside around Limoux is spectacular, especially towards the Pyrenees to the south and east.

All services are close at hand in Limoux: the town square is about 1.5 kms away. Villa Sainte Marie is ideal for two people.  It is an excellent base from which to explore the numerous attractions of this fascinating region or to be enjoyed as a peaceful and beautiful place in which to relax.

Accommodation detail

The house is in an elevated south-facing position set back from a quiet no-through road on the outskirts of Limoux. It is simply and tastefully decorated.

• The kitchen/diner is well equipped with large fridge/freezer, gas oven and hob, washing machine, microwave and small kitchen appliances.
• The sitting room has TV with Freeview.
• The double bedroom (twin beds) with an adjacent spacious bathroom (with view!) 

All rooms have beautiful views in different directions with a very light and airy feel; but life is best lived outside and there are several delightful outdoor sitting areas where meals can be taken.  The garden is large and beautiful, and very private. Although south-facing, there is plenty of shade for the warmer summer days. 

We regret that Villa Sainte Marie is not suitable for toddlers or wheel-chair users. Pets are not allowed. Linen is provided.

About the location

Limoux is a bustling little town with a busy town square with many cafes and restaurants: there are activities all year long including night markets and concerts in the summer. The two-months long ‘carnival’ takes place during February and March with activities most weekends.

Carcassonne and its Cite (a World Heritage Site), Rennes-le-Chateau, spa towns Rennes-les-Bains and Alet-les-Bains, and the Canal du Midi (another World Heritage Site) are all about half an hour away. A little further away are the Black Mountains, the beaches of the western Mediterranean, the Spanish border and the Pyrenees themselves with wonderful walking in summer and skiing in winter. Limoux is at the heart of Cathar country; visits to the Cathar castles are a must if you are interested in the rich culture and history of the area. Languedoc is also a region rich in flora and fauna.

Limoux is famous for its ‘blanquette’, a fizzy white wine which, local history tells us, pre-dates the invention of champagne. In addition there are many famous wine-growing areas close at hand – the Minervois and Corbieres to name just two. There is a huge choice of good food and wine in the region.

How to get here

Limoux is 20 minutes from Carcassonne Airport (Ryanair), and 80 minutes from Toulouse and Perpignan airports. There is a local train station which connects with the national network; it is 20 minutes from junction 23 on the A61 autoroute from where it takes an hour to the Mediterranean beaches. Travelling south from Limoux, it takes an hour to reach the higher levels of the Pyrenees.
