Situated in the small village of Braux this recently renovated Burgundian house lends its name to all the stone work in and around the property. Flagstone floors, vaulted arches, inglenook fireplace, kitchen sink and work surfaces and stone shower tray add to the charm of this 19th century house.
The pool is fitted with a fully secure and retractable cover, it serves several purposes : the first is for security, when the pool is not in use the cover is pulled over and locked, this gives peace of mind to families who have small children. Secondly, if the weather is a bit chilly or windy you can swim under the cover, there is access into the pool by a sliding door, the cover is high enough not to feel claustrophobic. Thirdly, as soon as the sun shines the cover acts as a green house and solar heats the water, this gives the pool a good temperature for a longer period, swimming in May and September with a water temperature of 26° is possible. Some families have said that they will always rent a property with this sort of cover from now on.......so why don't you try it?
There is a bread van that passes 3 mornings a week through the village selling fresh baguettes and croissants,a cheese van that passes on a Wednesday evening and an "epicerie" van once a week.
The house is stocked with information leaflets for the local sites and activities and we have also included our recommendations for places to eat.
New this year : we can organise relaxing massages, manicures and facials for you to enjoy at the house. If you are interested in pampering yourself let me know so that I can organise the time to suit you.
Circular stone steps lead up to the house and into the main sitting/kitchen/dining room.
The wooden oak staircase leads to the first floor.
There are 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedded room which are all of a good size. The upstairs bathroom has a toilet, washbasin, spacious shower and bath.
We have converted the attic into an extra room, it is accessable from one of the double rooms by an oak ladder. It can be used as a second sitting room, reading room or play room for children.
A travel cot is available on request, linen and covers are not provided unless asked for.
Bed linen, towels and kitchen hand and tea towels are provided.
Pool towels are provided as well.
The garden is planted with shrubs and fruit trees and is accessed either from the side of the house or from the kitchen terrace.
There is a newly installed swimming pool with a good range of inflatable toys, 8m x 4m, with walk-in steps at the shallow end, ideal for young children and learners. The pool and barbeque area can be flood lit in the evenings.
There are sun loungers with cushions and plenty of garden furniture to relax in, either under the covered terrace in the shade or by the pool.
We have provided an outside shower and toilet close by, pool towels are also provided.
Wander up through the vineyards and forest and enjoy the spectacular views.
The house is just 10kms from the medieval town of Semur en Auxois. Wander along the cobbled streets, take a walk around the ramparts and down to the river Armancon, have a coffee on a "terrasse" and choose from the numerous restaurants where you will eat in a true traditional manner. You can find everything you need here, banks, supermarkets, garages, post office, newsagents and a small Sunday morning market which is well worth a visit.
Fontenay Abbey, the chateau at Bussy Rabutin and Chateauneuf, the basilica at Vezelay and Dijon are just a few of the historique sites to visit. The pretty villages of Flavigny, Noyers sur Serein, Epoisses are well worth the visit and take a trip to Beaune,Chablis or Irancy to taste a few of the local wines.
See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.
The house is just 8kms from the A6 motorway exit of Semur en Auxois.
Flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle and a TGV train to Montbard.
Eurostar from London to Lille or Paris and TGV train to Montbard.

Louise and Gerard were very kind and helpful. The property was clean and well appointed, and in a lovely rural location with beautiful walks along the nearby canal. Really lovely holiday. Thank you.

We had a wonderful holiday - Louise and Gerard were terrific hosts and we particularly enjoyed the Pizza Night! The house is beautiful, very comfortable and well equipped and was perfect for us as two families holidaying together with young children. The children adored the pool and the retractable cover meant they could use it even if the weather was poor. We'd definitely recommend Stone Masons House No1!
