Home description

The Moulin du Château is tucked away in a stunningly beautiful setting. This 18th Century converted water mill is a paradise for those in search of an idyllic retreat. Situated in the ‘Parc Naturel Regional de la Brenne’, the mill overlooks the Anglin River and has its own private river beach and 20 acres of private gated grounds for mill guests only, complete with free boat and two small private islands. This very comfortable accommodation in beamed rooms, with the added attraction of swimming in the Château pool next door, makes this a marvellous holiday destination.

The Anglin River is a Haven for Birds (heron, kingfishers, ducks,etc.) and heaven for fishermen with 11 types of fish (trout, carp, perch, pike etc) just outside the Moulin's door on our private section of the River.

There are interesting medieval towns, villages and Châteaux close by. You can whet your appetite on the delicious delicacies at the local restaurants. The friendly Anglo-American Château owners will give you a warm welcome.

The Château has been written up in many books as it has been of historic importance since the 12th Century. It was under the protection of Charles V when it was an Abbey. Later, it was the home of Henry IV’s mistress. More, recently, it was the Resistance HQ of Indre in WWII.

About the location

The mill is situated on the Anglin River where it joins the Benaize River, near the village of St Hilaire–sur-Benaize, 6 miles from Le Blanc (capital of the Brenne Natural Park) and 36 miles from Poitiers, with its railway station and international airport.
