La Vieille Forge is a charming village house that used to be the village blacksmiths. La Forge is located in the centre of the village of Lorignac and makes and ideal location to rest and unwind whilst close to the Gironde Estuary and the beaches at Merchers, St George de Didonne and Royan. The village has the amenities of 2 bars, restaurant, café and small shop.

The neighbouring village of St Fort sur Gironde has an excellent bakers small supermarket and general purpose store. It also has a very small market twice a week. Also in St Fort is a small co op , which stocks a very wide range of foods and wines. There is a larger food market in Gemozac on Friday mornings. There are also several larger supermarkets all within easy driving distance. Fresh oysters and mussels can be bought on the village square on Sunday mornings.

La VieilleForge is a spacious and well appointed house on two floors. The owners have sympathetically updated the accommodation keeping the original fireplaces. The bellows of the old forge are still to be seen in the table tennis room.

Accommodation detail

Ground Floor:

• Entrance hall - spacious with wood burning stove, which takes the chill off the house on winters evenings. Just off the entrance hall is the delightful, comfortable sitting room.
• Sitting room - with two sofa’s and easy chair. The floor is tiled and keeps this room wonderfully cool in the summer months.
• Kitchen/Dining room - carrying on through the hall is the large family kitchen dining room. Very well appointed with cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and new for 2010 dishwashing machine. There is a large family table for eating indoors. From the kitchen you came to the old forge area where the old bellows can still be seen.
• Forge area - has a full size table tennis table which is ideal for working off some of the delicious food that you will eat during your stay. There are patio doors that lead out into the walled garden and patio. Also new for 2010 a delightful patio area with above ground plunge pool.
• Cloakroom - with WC

First Floor:

• Bedroom 1 - pretty double bedroom with large bed dressing table and hanging space.
• Bedroom 2 – twin bedded room
• Bedroom 3 – single room
• Bathroom - Newly refurbished for summer 2007, good size shower cubicle, toilet and sink

All bedrooms are provided with all bed linen and bath towels. Please bring your own beach towels.

Outside:

To the front there is a small walled courtyard and off road parking in an open garage.

To the rear there is a walled garden and patio where you can relax in the sunshine and take advantage of eating outside.

About the location

The house is ideally situated for a relaxing holiday. Close to the Gironde estuary with its pretty ports and inviting restaurants. Port Maubert and its lovely restaurant by the river are only 4 kms away. The beaches of Merchers and St George de Didonne are only 20 minutes away.

La Forge in the Charente Maritime is within easy reach of the A10 Paris/Bordeaux motorway. It is also one hour from Bordeaux and 1 1/4  hours from La Rochelle International Airports. The port of St Malo is only about 4 ½ hour drive away.

The Charente has the second highest number of sunshine hours in France ( after Cote d’Azur) with temperatures reaching the high 30’s in July and August. Charente Maritime has a mild temperate climate thanks to the Gulf Stream, which embraces the coastline.

With only a 15 minute ferry trip across the Gironde from Blaye you will find your self in the Medoc, where you can visit renowned Chateaux and savor the delicious world famous wines of the region. The busy towns of Saintes, Cognac and Pons are all within easy driving and are all well worth a visit.

• The house is about 4 1/2hrs drive from the port of St Malo.
• Bordeaux airport is about 1 hr away and La Rochelle is about 1 1/4hrs
