La Cotonne is a delightful village house in a quiet location on the edge of the village of St Thomas de Conac. It is within easy walking distance of the centre of the village and makes an ideal location to rest and unwind whilst close to the Gironde Estuary and the beaches at Merchers, St George de Didonne and Royan.

La Cotonne is a spacious and well appointed house on two floors. The owners have sympathetically updated the accommodation keeping the original fireplace and making it an ideal homely base to discover this superb region. From the pretty garden there are stunning views and sunsets. Tables and chairs are available on the patio to enjoy relaxed meals in the beautiful sunshine.

The Charente has the second highest number of sunshine hours in France ( after Cote d’Azur) with temperatures reaching the high 30’s in July and August. Charente Maritime has a mild temperate climate thanks to the Gulf Stream, which embraces the coastline.

The house is ideally situated for a relaxing holiday. With only a 15 minute ferry trip across the Gironde from Blaye you will find your self in the Medoc, where you can visit renowned Chateaux and savour the delicious world famous wines of the region. The busy towns of Saintes, Cognac and Pons are all within easy driving and are all well worth a visit.

Ground Floor:

• Kitchen /Sitting room - open plan room with an American style kitchen. The large sitting room area has comfortable sofas around the decorative Charentaise fireplace. There is a large kitchen table for indoor eating and a fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher and larder fridge.
• Shower room - with WC.
• Cloakroom - with a washing machine

First Floor:

• Bedroom One - with a kingsize bed, this room has its own shower room and wc ensuite.  Cot available.
• Bedroom Two - is a twin bedded room also has its own en suite.

The headroom is limited through the door ways but as the owner is 6’4’’ there should be no problem for guests. The windows are low down in the bedrooms, this is just a word of warning for very small children, however there are shutters on all the windows for added safety.

About the location

St Thomas has the amenities of a bar, café, shops, including a co op which stocks a large range of foods and wines. There is also a butchers and a very good bakers. For bigger shops you are close to Mirambeau where there is a supermarket and a nice market on Saturday mornings. There is a larger food market in Gemozac on Friday mornings. There are also several larger supermarkets all within easy driving distance. Fresh oysters and mussels can be bought on the village square on Sunday mornings.

Close to the Gironde estuary with its pretty ports and inviting restaurants. Port Maubert and its lovely restaurant by the river are only 6 kms away. The beaches of Merchers and St George de Didonne are only 30 minutes away.

How to get here

La Cotonne in the Charente Maritime is within easy reach of the A10 Paris/Bordeaux motorway. It is also one hour from Bordeaux and 1 ½ hours from La Rochelle International Airports. The port of St Malo is only about 4 ½ hour drive away.
