Situated between sea and mountains in a delightful fortified medieval village, this tastefully renovated stone house is built into the old village walls. The house is full of character with natural stone walls and timber beams and enjoys beautiful views of the countryside. There is a light and airy raised ground floor with 55m² of open plan living area. You can access lovely walks direct from the house along streams, through wooded hillsides and the colourful patchwork of vineyards. The area abounds with picturesque medieval villages with local markets and castles. Close by is Pezenas, described as one of the most beautiful towns in the French south west with its fine architecture and surprisingly inexpensive restaurants.

The village is situated in gently undulating countryside ideal for cycling. Two bicycles, stored in the large cellars, are provided for exclusive guest use.

Or you can simply slow down, relax and soak in the peaceful ambience of the local lifestyle, sitting in the house's enclosed quiet, private and sunny 40m² walled courtyard garden with a glass of wine and meals taken al fresco.

What recent guests have said about us.....

"What a great place!"

"The house is just superb and in a dream location particularly for cyclists"

"Les Eaux Calmes is a most amazing place. We felt at home as soon as we got through the door. The decoration, layout and facilities are fantastic."

"The village was very beautiful"

"We thought the countryside was stunning"

And a local property manager: "Our favourite house and the most tastefully done"

"We have returned to the US after a wonderful week in Les Eaux Calmes. We all loved your home in Gabian. We feel so special to be the first Americans to have stayed there. We went to the boulangerie every morning for our bagette…. we had fantastic weather every day, which in turn made the week even nicer. The house was very cosy and was decorated so cute and had all essentials that were needed.  We would definitely recommend it to anyone….  and we love Pezenas with the restaurant/bar area where they have entertainment every night.  Their market on Saturday was pretty amazing. Thanks again for the use of your home."  September 2009

Our average feedback score from guests for four categories: cleanliness, welcome, house facilities and value for money, each came to between 9 and 10 out of 10!

About the location

The house is situated in the heart of the old medieval village, with its westerly wall formed along the old fortified ramparts. It enjoys lovely views over the surrounding countryside and still waters below, where two rivers join above the picturesque local weir. Gabian has a history dating back to Roman times and is a fine example of a fortified medieval village known as a "circulade" with its maze of narrow streets and alleys. There are around 700 inhabitants and the village boasts a bar/restaurant, bakers, grocers, newsagent, post office, pharmacy and medieval church. This village is in the heart of a beautiful wine growing region known for its countryside, historic villages, castles and abbeys.
