Home description

Near enough to the UK for a short break, but far enough to be in the heart of rural France and to get those all important extra degrees of warmth.

There are 2 gîtes available together or separately, in a restored farmhouse near Igé in a pretty field/orchard setting. The farm - 1797, (said to be a gift from Napoleon to a retiring soldier), has lovely sunny views and original features.

La Joanne is a flexible and comfortable family or 2 couple gite. Each of the bedrooms can be either twin or double bedded, and each has its own shower/toilet room. There is a separate space for a cot or extra single bed upstairs. The master bedroom has a generous walk-in cupboard for clothes and suitcases. The kitchen-dining room is very sunny and spacious, with a French window out on to the south-facing patio and a beech parquet floor.  The cosy living room gets evening sunlight and has a log fire. The separate approach and entrance makes for excellent privacy. Plus points:

About the location

We are near the pretty medieval town of Bellême (5 mins) and half an hour from Le Mans in the lovely Perche region.  The location is very tranquil, green and spacious.  A variety of delightful villages and small towns in 5 - 30 km radius, all with good restaurants, markets and their own special character.

How to get here

You can take the Eurostar to Paris and then reach us in 3 hours by hire-car or 1.5 hour by train (nearest station Nogent-le-Rotrou), come by car via Eurotunnel and Calais or come by ferry. There is a fast ferry link Dover to Boulogne (Speedferries - currently cheapest), or other  operators including Brittany Ferries and Seafrance, via Portsmouth - Le Havre  or Portsmouth - Ouistreham (Caen). Cherbourg and Dieppe are other ferry destination possibilities. 

By air you have the choice of flights to Tours, to Paris main airports or Paris - Beauvais.  In the past low-cost flights have also existed to Le Mans, Dinard and Deauville. There is a TGV train link from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to Le Mans. 

The journey by car from Calais to here is very simple. The most direct route is via Rouen, A28 to Gacé, then Mortagne, Belleme, Igé, taking 4 - 4.5hrs. (If using satellite navigation, enter the name of our hamlet: 'Les Bruyères') There is so much less traffic than in Britain, you can even enjoy the drive.
