Mas des Tourterelles is a C19th Provençal farmhouse within a walled garden situated in a quiet residential area of St Rémy-de-Provence. Great care and attention to detail has gone into the renovation of the main house and the conversion of the adjacent barn. A brief walk takes you to the centre of this historic and charming town.

This delightful first floor apartment is approached by an outside staircase and enjoys magnificent views of Les Alpilles. Accommodation comprises:

• Spacious and comfortable south facing sitting room with TV and dining area
• Private terrace for taking an aperitif whilst enjoying the view
• Well-equipped kitchen (washing machine facilities are available)
• Bedroom
• Bathroom
• Other bedrooms available each with a shower room with separate WC

The apartment can, if required, be combined with one or two additional double bedrooms (see below) to provide exclusive accommodation for a party of up to 6 people.

Relax outside under the shady tonnelles or beside the superb 10 x 5 metre pool.

Not suitable for families with very small children.

About the location

St Rémy-de-Provence is the gateway to the Alpilles and an ideal base from which to explore the area whatever your interests. It evokes the very essence of Provence with boulevards shaded by plane trees, fountains splashing in the many hidden squares inside the old town and the weekly market, which spreads down the little streets. Watch the world go by from a pavement café or enjoy fabulous Provençal cuisine at one of the many restaurants to be found in St Rémy.

The Roman Antiquities at Glanum lie just to the south of the town, whilst Arles is 25km and Nimes 40km. The Pont du Gard, the 2000 year old aqueduct, which was built to supply Nimes with spring water, is 35km. The Camargue and its vast nature reserve abounds in wildlife, including white horses, black cattle, flamingos and egrets. It is a fascinating place to visit with empty beaches and interesting seaside towns such as Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer (festivals in May) and Aigues-Mortes, a C13th fortified city built for the preparation of the Crusades by Louis IX (festival in August).

If art is your interest you can uncover the fascinating links between Van Gogh and St Rémy where he spent his last years at the former monastery of St-Paul-de-Mausole. There are painting festivals in the town during the summer months and, for the connoisseur, world renowned festivals of the arts in nearby Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Orange. Nostradamus, the C16th doctor and astrologer was born in St Rémy.

St Rémy nestles close to the jagged limestone outcrops of Les Alpilles, which rise to 400 metres with Mont Goussier standing sentinel over the town. The terrain comes alive in springtime when the little irises and jonquilles appear in the garrigue. As the season progresses so comes the heady intoxicating scent of rosemary and thyme amongst the pine trees, and who can forget the magical sound of cigalles on a summer’s day in Provence. In Les Alpilles the well known Grand Randonnée footpath system offers an extensive choice of routes at all levels for walkers in spring and autumn. 

The French passion for cycling is apparent, especially at weekends, when it seems all Frenchmen take to the roads and mountain tracks in this wonderful cycling country.
