Where is it

Creuse

Located in the Limousin region of France just 2 kilometres from the charming village of St Dizier-Leyrenne, which features a range of small shops, bar/café and pretty lake with sandy beaches and perimeter walk. Pommerol is an ideal place to relax, unwind and chill out from the everyday pressures, demands and stresses of daily life. It comprises four charming and individual newly renovated gites within two contrasting Limousin barns that date back over 200 years.

Each gite has been sympathetically refurbished, retaining original features whilst incorporating modern conveniences to provide an attractive, comfortable and enchanting holiday retreat. The surrounding picturesque landscape remains an exceptional natural environment in an area of outstanding natural beauty. There is an abundance of birds, wildlife, trees and plants living in the peaceful countryside where tranquillity is assured. All you need do is come and explore on foot, bicycle or horseback. A warm welcome is guaranteed.

About Us

Pommerol was originally a working livestock farm situated in a small hamlet of seven houses, only five remain. The surrounding fields now belong to other farms and at times, are populated by the famous Limousin cattle. The farmhouse was severely damaged by a storm shortly after the Second World War and in the intervening years gradually fell into a state of disrepair.

Following complete renovation, it now provides the accommodation for the resident English-speaking owners who are on hand, if needed. Our largest gite is located within the attached storage barn and is directly opposite the larger animal barn, which has been converted into three gites and incorporates a games room.

Additionally, there is a communal laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities. Between the two barns is an outdoor swimming pool with roman steps, surrounded by a tiled terrace for sunbathing on the loungers provided. The pool has a security alarm fitted in compliance with French law. All guests using the gites have shared access to the swimming pool, which is cleaned on a daily basis.

We are open all year for holidays, house hunting or short breaks and have excellent road, rail and air links. No smoking in gites. Perfect for couples. Sorry, we are unable to accept children under 18 or pets.  If you would like to spend a lazy or energetic holiday at Pommerol or are planning a short break/house hunting trip please contact the owners.

Accommodation detail

Originally, an open fronted barn used principally for storing straw attached to the main farmhouse. The building also contained a bread oven, which has been retained as a feature within the downstairs bedroom. Pailler is our largest accommodation and can sleep 4/5 people.

Smoking not permitted inside the gite.

Outside

The paved terrace in front of the double doors overlooks the swimming pool where you can relax and enjoy a glass or two of Bordeaux. Garden furniture and barbecue are provided.

About the location

The Limousin region is in southern central France, approximately 230 miles south of Paris and 380 miles from the channel ports. It is in the lower foothills of the Massif Central, yet with an oceanic climate, and comprises three departments: Correze, Creuse and Haute Vienne with Limoges the regional capital.

Pommerol is located within Creuse, which is in the heart of rural France and one of the least densely populated parts of Europe. In fact, there are actually more cows in Creuse than people! A quarter of Creuse is covered by dense green forest, the natural beauty has not been spoilt by development and you can breathe in the pure air of the great outdoors! Often referred to as the French Lake District because of the abundance of lakes (a mecca for water sports enthusiasts) and numerous rivers it is paradise, a lure for fishermen, with the trout here some of the best in France. In conclusion, Creuse is scenic, unspoiled and peaceful, and a haven for country lovers. It is a pastoral delight depicting a bygone age that has largely disappeared from Western Europe. All you have to do is come and explore!
