Traditional Country House in the Pas-de-Calais

This lovely traditional red brick French Flemish house is situated in countryside, 5 kms from the village of Noordpeene close to the Belgium border, 40 kms from Calais itself and is ideally placed within easy reach of Lille (50 kms), Paris (300 kms), London (Euro Tunnel 35 kms), and Brussels.

We call this "Le Coin Perdu" because it is a peaceful and unchanging place, surrounded by lawns, fruit trees and fields crossed by a stream, where you can row and fish. Row boats are available. Wonderful views, garden with flowers.

The owner lives in the house when it is not rented so when you arrive and you have forgotten you coffee, sugar, pasta etc... please help yourself, you just need to replace it before you go!!!

Holiday Accommodation at The House

The ground floor

  • A cosy living room with a dining area and a log burning fireplace and books.
  • The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, hot plates and a dishwasher with other appliances, oven, microwave and washing machine, in a back kitchen.
  • Another room has television, video and DVD with a sofa bed if necessary.
  • There is also a bathroom with a shower
  • A separate wc.

Upstairs

  • Two bedrooms, one is a double room, the other has a double and a single bed.
  • There is also a bathroom (bath and toilet)

Other stairs lead to

  • Two further bedrooms, which are more privately situated and would suit teenagers

Outside

There is a terrace with garden furniture, swings for the children and various games including table tennis, sunloungers and a hammock. Bicycles are also available.

About Noordpeene in Nord, Nord Pas de Calais

You can find most things in the village and can also buy fresh local produce directly from the farms. There is a greater choice of shops and a supermarket in Saint-Omer 10 kms away, a quiet, interesting and handsome town with many elegant 17th and 18th century town houses. One of the finest is the Hôtel Sandelin, which has a good museum (paintings, sculptures, ceramics) and the great Gothic basilica of Notre-Dame has the air of the cathedral it once was, and several works of art including a 16th century astronomical clock. Just to the north east of the town, the marshes between the Aa and the forest of Clairmarais have been canalised into thousands of kilometres of waterways.

Landscapes, traditions and typical lifestyles:
The house is located in the marsh audomarois, recognized as a regional natural park. Its natural wealth is based on a wide variety of natural habitats: wet meadows bordered by willows, tadpoles, large ponds, boggy woods, reedbeds, rivers, ditches, meadow water. This diversity allows an exceptional flora and fauna to thrive (plants and populations of protected birds). Today the marsh audomarais is the last marsh cultivated in France. Growing vegetables is an ancient tradition. Two dominant cropsare cauliflower and endive.

The cottage was wonderful and very comfortable, all of us enjoyed our holiday and the children loved the donkeys. This part of France was beautiful, and every body made us very welcome.

 A wonderful, secluded cottage.  Our holidays here have always been full of happy memories and we return home relaxed and refreshed.  This year (2011) will be our 6th visit - this truly is a "home from home".

This property is ideally situated - quiet and secluded but near enough to the town for leisurely shopping and not too far from the coast and safe beaches. An ideal location for all ages.
