Family oriented and disabled friendly and wheelchair accessible and situated in a delightful 200 acre valley with superb views including the Pyrenees, is this beautifully restored traditional farmhouse with four Gites and a swimming pool in the heart of the beautiful Languedoc Region offering 1 to 9 bedrooms and combinations therein.

Welcome to Domaine de La Coume - the La Coume Estate - where we believe you will find that little something different; that something you have been looking for during many previous holidays. We offer you a place of tranquillity, a place where you can let your troubles drift off on a summer breeze, or simply chill out on an autumn evening with the scent of Mimosa, Lavender, and Rosemary in the air.

La Coume is a renovated 17th Century farmhouse set in the rural heartland of the Languedoc-Rousillon region of France. Our aim is to provide quality family accommodation where you can relax in comfort. We welcome families with children and those who just want to get away from it all in a rural setting. Yet, we are close to all amenities and leisure activities. 

We have four Gites which have been converted from an enclosed barn.

Three of the Gites are wheelchair accessible and should meet the basic access requirements of those with mobility needs. Each Gite has its own private patio overlooking the lake. The Gites can be rented separately or as a combined unit for larger parties accommodating up to 22 people includng the main house. The swimming pool (10X5 metres) is available for the use of guests at the Gites and has been constructed in a sheltered spot that benefits from the sun throughout the day.

We welcome also, out of season lets for those who wish to spend more time in the area. For winter there is no worry about feeling cold.  If you are planning a long stay to find a property, email us and we will be delighted to assist.

Accommodation detail

Queribus - a family or larger group orientated Gite, is a ground and first floor Gite that sleeps 12. This is a stone built, fully refurbished farm building, which encompasses the luxury you would wish for and the rustic charm of a building from this era. It has been decorated to reflect the aspect of the time when it was built. It has lots of light and a beautiful balcony which give shade during the hottest part of the day.

• Kitchen/diner area - open-plan with attractive original sandstone walls. Appliances - hob and oven, refrigerator, washing machine and dishwasher.
• Living areas - have comfy seats and a stereo and TV with DVD player so you can watch films or read books (available from our library).
• Attractive bedrooms - with double bed or twins. Each bedroom looks out onto the front court yard and the valley and balcony.
• Four en-suite shower-rooms and a family sized bathroom - two bedrooms have a tilled shower area suitable for those with mobility needs.

Outside

The ground floor living area leads onto a secluded terrace overlooking the valley and small lake. This is equipped with a patio table and chairs. A barbeque is provided also. On the upper floor there is a fabulous 14 by 4.5 metre balcony which overlooks the lake and hillsides.

About the location

Wheelchair friendly accommodation at Domaine de la Coume set in a small secluded valley, which includes meadows, hills, woods, two streams and a small lake. You are welcome to explore the land, hills and woods. A view of the Pyrenees can be seen from the top of the hills.

La Coume is well situated in the heart of the Languedoc-Rousillon countryside in the Department of the Aude. It is a few minutes drive from the small village of Plavilla and 10 minutes from the historic Bastide town of Mirepoix where you can find a supermarket, bank, post office and other amenities. In Mirepoix you will also find a range of gourmet restaurants where you can sample the local regional dishes. There is a market on a Monday where you can buy fresh produce and local crafts. After a morning’s shopping you can relax in one of the cafés and soak up the ambience of the medieval market square.

Carcassonne is 40 minutes drive away and is an unforgettable experience with its famous ‘Cite’. The coastal resorts and of course the beach are an hours drive We are ideally located for skiing at Mont D’Olmes and other ski resorts in the Pyrenees and Andorra. Toulouse with its famous architecture, shopping and aero spatial museum is 40 minutes drive, and in the opposite direction, the Spanish border and beach resorts, Figueres (Salvador Dali museum) is a comfortable day trip.

The area is of course famous for it ranges of excellent wines from the Corbières and Minervois in the south, to the more local Malpere and Fitou. The wine growers welcome you to taste their wine and we are able to recommend some places to visit.

How to get here

By Road:

There are various routes down through France and any good road map will help you to plan your route. After Toulouse, leave the A61 motorway at Junction 21, turn right onto the D6 towards Mirepoix and La Coume is about 10 minutes drive (18 kilometres). The entrance is marked by a statue of a wild boar on the left hand side of the road just before you reach Plavilla.

Mileage: approximately 750 miles from Calais. This is around 10.5 hours driving.

By Air:

Both Carcassonne, which is 30 minutes away and Toulouse which is only 1 hour away, are convenient.
