Home description

La Cure is a rarity -  a huge property with two stunning 18th century houses,  a  pool and two acres of gardens in the middle of a delightful Loire Valley village. 

La Cure consists of Les Roses (a  4 bedroom house) and La Lavande (a 2 bedroom cottage).  They are designed to be enjoyed by two different groups and each are very private.  But together they also make a perfect property for large groups, giving everyone their own privacy, but also having great common areas for eating and drinking together.  There is a full description of each of Les Roses and La Lavande below.

The owners have made La Cure a special place to holiday. Some examples of small touches you won't find in most rental properties:

* Lovely freshly ironed cotton sheets on all beautifully comfortable beds
* A helpful and knowledgeable caretaker who lives offsite
* Boules and croquet sets for evening games on the lawn
* Recent Conde Naste and Vanity Fair magazines to browse

* A garden with herbs and tomatoes for guests' use

* Shelves of great novels and guide books
* A fully fenced 2 acre property for children's safety

There are 6 good quality adults bikes (4 with baby seats), 4 children's bikes of varying sizes and a number of small trikes. The property is perfect for children to ride around safely and there are numerous great rides nearby (suggested routes are provided).  The 12th century grange has a pool table, darts and table football. Guests can use a membership at the tennis court in the next village.

The houses have been stylishly furnished and provide a fabulous blend of old and new. They have massive oak beams, antique tiled floors, delightful bedrooms and glorious church views.  The  two acres have fruit trees,  gardens of roses and  a large pool with a massive teak deck.

The property is in the middle of a lovely Loire Valley village which has a magnificent church and a street of troglodyte houses. There are food markets  and a chateau 15 minutes away in the beautiful medieval town of Loches .  Chateaux such as Chenonceau and Villandry, the vineyards of Chinon and Borgueil and the elegant city of Tours are all less than 40 minutes away. Or you can just sit back and enjoy your glorious and peaceful surroundings with the food and wine bought at the markets.

Les Roses is an impressive 4-5 bedroom house consisting of two separate wings built around a central kitchen. It is ideal for two families or a large group.

Wing 1

Upstairs

• Two bedrooms  - good-sized with exposed beams, slanting ceilings and antique terracotta-tiled floors. One bedroom has a queen-sized bed, the other two singles.
• Two bathrooms - one with a bath, and the other with a shower.

Downstairs

• Living/dining room - has a high ceiling with exposed beams and a grand, open fireplace. It has a long antique dining table, sofas and CD player.
• Small single bedroom with a toilet and bar fridge.

Wing 2

Upstairs

• Two bedrooms - have exposed beams, slanting ceilings and church views. One has a queen-sized bed, the other a double (and can also have an additional single bed).
• Two small bathrooms - one with a bath, the other a shower.

Downstairs

• Living room - is a lovely informal area with huge windows opening onto the courtyard on one side and the garden on the other. The living room contains a large flat screen TV and DVD, video and CD players and a wood-burning heater.
• Kitchen - is fully equipped and sits between the two living rooms and has a stove, dishwasher, microwave, and large refrigerator.

Outside

There is a grass terrace area with outdoor furniture and a barbecue.  The 12 century grange (one of the village's oldest buildings) has a pool table, dart board and table football. The grounds are huge and perfect for children to ride the bikes which are provided. The owners have also left a map of their favourite nearby bike rides.

About the location

La Cure is in the middle of a charming village which has a street of troglodyte houses and a beautiful 12th century church. The friendly baker from the neighbouring village delivers bread and croissants to the door each morning.

There is a food market each Monday in a village 5 minutes away and twice a week in the beautiful medieval town of Loches (15 minute drive).

There is a wonderful Michelin restaurant (regarded as one of the best in the Loire and about half the price of it's equivalent in Paris) 10 minutes away. There are also lots of great local bar/restaurants.

Many of the most beautiful chateaux of the Loire Valley such as Chenonceau, Villandry and Azay le Rideau are no more than 40 minutes from La Cure. Less well known, but just as impressive, is Loches, a picturesque medieval town complete with chateau. Only a 15 minute drive from La Cure, it hosts a colourful and lively food and flower market twice a week.

The wine areas of Chinon, Samur, Vouvray and Borgueil are all within an easy hour's drive of La Cure.

The lovely city of Tours (described by Lonely Planet as a "mini Paris") is 45 minutes north of Les Roses. About the same distance away is the atmospheric town of Chinon.

La Cure's owners have spent many hours exploring their part of the Loire and have plenty of ‘inside knowledge’ they’d like to share with their guests. They've prepared notes to help you enjoy experiences which could easily be missed in a short stay.

How to get here

• Guests can fly into nearby Tours or Poitiers (which have bargain flights from London on Ryan Air).
• La Cure can be reached by car from the UK in one day, with many of the ferry ports within about 4 hours' drive.
• La Cure is only a 2 hour drive from the south of Paris (Orly airport) or an extra 45 minutes from Charles de Gaulle (Roissy) airport in the north. Alternatively, you can travel by train from Paris (either CDG airport or the city) to Tours in less than one hour. This makes La Cure a perfect option for international visitors not wanting a connecting flight or a long drive after arriving in Paris.
