About the location

Villiers les Potots  is a well maintained old village with  pretty cottages and old farm houses. Just 1 kilometer cycle ride or walk you are in Quarre les Tombes where there are  good shops , restaurants, bars, market and museum. In the summer there are many fairs and Celtic music festivals in the neighbouring village of Quarre les Tombes and a  a lovely market square with and a chocolaterie to die for. Nearby Saulieu hosts one of the worlds most famous Cajun festivals in August .

Sit on a sunny Sunday brunchtime with a cool glass of the local Aligotte wine and watch the locals sell their produce of cheeses, hams, fresh garden vegetables, beautiful flowers and plants. Stroll across the square to the lady making fresh pancakes outside the bread shop, then maybe have a coffee whilst listening the French Folk group playing further down the square.

The nearby town of Avallon has some beautiful terraced views, lovely flower displays, plenty art galleries and museums. Shops and restaurants are plentiful and there is a wonderful indoor and outdoor market to buy everything from frogs legs to a sun hat. On the outskirts is a hypermarket.

SIGHT SEEING Take a day to visit the cheese making village of Epoisses and look around the chateau then travel onto Semur en Auxois, a walled mediaeval town that will take your breath away. Dijon is 1 hour away with so much to do including the famous Toisson D’Or shopping centre with indoor swimming pooL.The history and architecture are incredible, the shopping exciting and just 1 hours drive in any direction offers many places of interest.

Guedilon is a must for a day out, where  tradesmen are building a mediaeval fortress from scratch using traditional methods and taking 25 years to complete .

WINES You are central for the Burgundy wine tours, south for Beaune and the reds, and north to pretty Chablis and the whites.Drive into the mountain tunnels of Les Caves du Bailly for a champagne tour and tasting.

LAZY DAYS If you like the quiet life then it is so easy just to sit and do absolutely nothing in the Morvan, especially up in the great forests, just watching out for the many birds of prey, deer and boar. Have a lazy day with a picnic by one of the many beautiful lakes, all with little beaches , shallow for paddling, fishing and various water sports on each lake. There are short and long walks to monuments and water falls, kaya along quiet rivers and lakes or go white water rafting.

RETSAURANTS  Burgundy is famous for its fine foods and the restaurants nearby really show off the incredible diversities of this art. We have 2  3star Michelin restaurants, Marc Meneau at Vezelay and Bernard Loiseau at Saulieu, wonderful local chefs at La Vieille Auberge , Le Morvan and L'Auburge du L'Atre and old traditional restaurants such as Auberge Ensoleille with a family history of 60 years.... the choice is yours.
