About the location

Villeneuve les Beziers is a charming Midi village on the Canal du Midi. There is a wide selection of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The canal is 5 mins away on foot. It’s fascinating to watch the lazy barges and boats going up and down the canal and through the locks.

The long sandy beaches with all their amenities are only a 10 mins drive away. Quiet stretches with dunes or lively ones – the choice is yours. There are plenty of child friendly beaches, parks, amusement parks and places of interest to visit.

The town of Beziers, which is renowned for its rugby and bullfighting, is dominated by its massive 14th century St Nazaire Cathedral, which boasts fine, sculpture, stained glass, frescoes and dominates the surrounding area giving a spectacular view for miles. The Neo-classic theatre heads the end of a long tree lined square where local markets are held and people rest in the shade of the trees and watch the locals playing ‘petanque’ and this all being surrounded by shops and boutiques galore.

The charming city of Narbonne with its restored medieval quarter to the north, its local markets and the canal crossing through the centre.

The beautiful renaissance town of Pezenas, known as the town of Art and Craftsmen, is not to be missed. It is so steeped in architecture and history.

Agde known as the ‘black pearl’ of the Mediterranean with its famous 3 B.C. Adonis bronze statue, beaches and port.

Sete is an ‘Italianate’ fishing town full of quayside restaurants and meandering canals. Watching the trawlers off loading their fish is a sight to see.

There are so many places to visit. This region has the highest annual sunshine average in France, offering miles of clean, sandy and uncrowded beaches. Unlimited water sports, scenery and naturally, the most important of all its gourmet delights and wine tasting.

How to get here

There are many airports serving the area, where you can pick up your hire car on arrival – rates are cheaper when reservations are made at country of origin, prior to arrival.

• Gerone - 110 mins (Spain, Barcelona)

• Beziers - 10 mins

Apart from BA, cheap flights are also available with Ryan Air, Flybe and Easy Jet to many of these airports from regional airports in England.

Ryan Air will be starting flights from Bristol to Beziers in March. There is also a possibility from Manchester but this has to be confirmed

Driving to the South of France is no longer a problem. The road network is extensive. You can either follow the instructions from the AA or R.A.C route planners or choose between the western A62/61 via Toulouse, the A7 that offers the shortest route from north to south via Paris or the more easterly A9 by way of Lyons. Exit A9 at junction 35 - we are just 10 mins down the road.

There is also a super-fast TGV rail from Paris to Beziers in 4½ hrs. We can arrange to pick you up from the station.
