Bed & Breakfast in Beautiful Rural Setting

L'Ancienne Vigneronne:  Is a 200 year old village house recently refurbished to a high standard offering spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds and great showers.  With a swimming pool, being open all year and serving good food we're a great location for exploring the region or just relaxing.

Mailhac is a small village in the heart of the Minervois wine growing area of the Languedoc. With a current population of about 400 it  has its own Marie, village shop, bar, post office, library, school and a number of places to buy wine. We have an internationally recognised bronze age archealogical site, and although access is limited at present some of the artifacts can be seen in Narbonne.

About Us: Caroline and Trevor moved from the UK in 2003 to change their lifestyle and take-on new challanges. "The French have embraced us in their social, cultural and sporting lives. For us it has been a great move and we'd like to share it with you".

About Mailhac in Aude, Languedoc Roussillon

The Region: Mailhac lies in the Minervois wine growing region, north of Narbonne and mid-way between the medieval cities of Béziers and Carcassonne. The gently undulating Minervois is crossed by the world famous Canal du Midi.  Mailhac is also close to the National Park of the High Languedoc and the wild Corbiere.

Eating Out:  There are a number of good restaurants within a 15 minute drive offering regional cuisine in friendly surroundings.  We can provide recommendations and assist with reservations.

Flora and Fauna:  Vines dominate the cultivated lower slopes of the Minervois.  Carpets of orchid, iris and asphodel are to be found on the wild garrigue in Springtime.  Smell the scent of rosemary and thyme, pick wild asparagus and see beautiful swallowtail butterflies, exoctic birds like bee eaters, sanglier (wild boar), lizards and coypu.

Historical Sites: Cathar history and events feature strongly in this region. There are numerous chapels of exquisite design, ancient villages whose circular construction is a unique feature of this part of France and castles and fortresses along what used to be the border between France and Spain.  The walled cité of Carcassonne is a World Heritage site.

Culture: The people of the Languedoc are passionate about their land, history and culture. They celebrate these continually through local fetes, markets, music and dance, their language, art, sport, wine and food.  We keep a diary of events large and small.  For example, each year in July Carcassonne hosts a major festival of culture and art, and every Tuesday there's an excellent traditional street market in Olonzac.  Look-up L'Ancienne Vigneronne on Facebook to see what's happening.
