Step back in time in this beautifully restored medieval manor house, the house is a traditional Charantaise house 20 minutes from Angouleme town centre, 1 hour from Perigueux and bordering on the Dordogne. It dates from the 14th Century and is full of character; a unique property sympathetically restored offering all the comforts of the 21st century.

A rustic blend of oak beams, terracotta tiles and exposed stone walls are the backdrop for spacious living areas, the walls are a meter thick.

From the courtyard you climb stone steps on to a terrace that leads you both around the house to the front gate and in to a large hallway. Immediately the stress and tiredness of the journey evaporate as the warmth of the house and its interior welcomes you!

Accommodation detail

The spacious Manoir accommodates 10-12 people. Rooms are so large that extra guests can comfortably be accommodated if required. 

Manor House

• The huge stone-walled kitchen is ideal to cook in and serve food at the monastery table seating 12. The kitchen boasts large open fireplaces with a back boiler heating system to compliment the central heating.
• An oak staircase leads from the kitchen up to a large bedroom and shower room.
• Stone steps from the kitchen also lead both to the garden/games room and the walled garden itself.
• The lounge features a grand open stone fireplace and opens on to a formal dining room.
• An oak staircase will take you up to the stoned walled and beamed ceiling bedrooms and shower rooms over two floors.
• One of the double bedrooms is just across the courtyard, it a large atmospheric room with a double bed and a sofa bed and a shower room. 

Throughout the house are interesting recesses in the stone wall that are all individually lit up adding an aesthetic dimension to the interior.

The Swimming Pool

A 9 x 5 metre swimming pool leadsoff from the kitchen garden.  It has views of the grounds and is decked all around, there are sunloungers.  The games room is just across the garden and the garden itself it an ideal place for alfresco dining close to the pool.

The Grounds:

The property is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor dining either on the terrace, in the garden, by the river or in the BBQ building which is an outstanding feature in the grounds. The BBQ is a proper fire BBQ, housed in a stone building, with a sink & running water and electric lighting. The covered area houses a table and chairs/benches for eating in the shade.

About the location

This area is renowned for its food, the heartland of French food to be cooked at home after shopping at one of the many markets or eaten in a selection of local restaurants.

La Rochelle (2 hrs) and Royan (11/2 hrs) are within easy driving distance for beautiful beaches.

The roads in South West France are far less busy than the roads in the UK or Netherlands.

Cognac is also within easy reach if you fancy a tipple.

Rochepine Manoir is also well positioned for excursions into the Dordogne - 1 hour drive to Perigueux - the capital of the Dordogne department. Sarlat La Caneda is within easy reach and Brantome is just 30 minutes away, Benjac etc the list goes on.

If you prefer, just chill out at Rochepine Manoir itself having fun in the pool and using the facilities and many external eating areas where the sound of water can always be heard because the River Bandiat borders the property on two sides.

How to get here

By Ferry and Drive - From Portsmouth to St Milo, drive takes approx. 4 1/2 hours via Rennes, Nant, Niort.

By Plane - Ryan Air - From Stanstead to Limoge or Potier, hire a car and drive for 45/60 minutes.  Flybe from Southampton to La Rochelle or Bergerac hire a car and drive for 1 1/2 hours. 

By Car - By Boat to the many harbours Portsmouth etc and drive for 4-6 hours.  Eurostar to Calais, drive takes approx 7 hours via Orlean, Poitiers, Anguoleme.

By Train - Eurostar to Lille/Paris and TGV to Anquoleme.

Other	There are villages close by 3-5km for Bread, shops and restaurants. There is a cycle path (old railway track) just minutes from the property, there are two adult mountain bikes and a couple of older bikes available.
