Home description

Where is it

Saône-et-Loire

Le Nid is a large 18th century country house is situated in a small hamlet only 7 km west of Cluny in Southern Burgundy, an area rich in natural beauty, culture and gastronomy. Less than half an hour from Macon and the major artery (A6) called the Route du Soleil connecting Northern France with the South, Le Nid is ideally located for stopovers or lengthier stays. Rolling hills and hedgerows interspersed by old stone farmhouses and herds of the famous but alas for them, delicious Charolais cows, have inspired many to declare this unspoilt area of France between the rivers Saone and Loire the equal of Tuscany.

Four comfortable apartments of varying sizes are contained within Le Nid's stone walls, three of which in the main house, and the fourth in the stables wing.

Two additional rooms can be rented either with the apartments or as B&B accommodation.

The size, location and level of comfort make Le Nid ideal for friends vacationing together, family reunions, or groups pursuing a particular interest, whether it be painting, hiking, birdwatching or winetasting, the possibilities are legio. An artisit's studio on the premises can be made available for indoor work by arrangement.

Accommodation detail

The main house is a 300 year old "Maison de Maître", full of character and comprised of the three apartments "Rouge Gorge, Le Pinson and La Chouette", full  descriptions for which follow under the individual apartment names.

About the location

Le Nid is situated in the small hamlet of Chateau, 7km from the medieaval town of Cluny in Southern Burgundy, 20 min from Macon on the major artery A6, Route de Soleil connecting the north with the south of France. It is a pastoral paradise, but close to the centres of Lyon, Dijon, Beaune, and Autun for the occasional day-trip. Good restaurants abound, and the vineyards of the Maconnais, Chalonnais and Beaujolais are all within a 15 min. drive.

Cluny itself is famous for the ruins of the most important abbey church in Christendom before St. Peter's in Rome was built, and its equestrian tradition and stud farm dates from Napolean.
