Chatenet Holiday Gites are situated in the peaceful Charentaise countryside between the market towns of Montendre and Chevanceaux.These beautiful gites are owned by an english family, who live in an adjacent detached house and will ensure that you have all that's needed to enjoy your holiday.The converted barns are surrounded by sunflower and cornfields, situated on 1 acre of land with walnut, apple and cherry orchards.

Relax by the pool and take in the scenic views which are both beautiful and spectaculer throughout the year. Not to be missed every Tuesday evening is the bustling night market at Montendre. Try the freshly cooked food with a bottle of wine all made and sold by the local traders. During your stay with us visit the surrounding vineyards for cognac and pineau tasting or if you prefer stay on-site and have a game of pool or table tennis any time during the day or evening!

Holiday Accommodation at Le Petit Gite

This former 90m2 barn has been converted to provide generous living accomadation which is both comfortable and cosy. Inside and out the gite reflects its own exceptional character and is ideal for families or couples. It has a beautiful wood burning fire for guests that want to come out of season or when the weather is not at its best:

Ground Floor: Inside the open plan consists of the kitchen which is on the left as you enter with a dining table along the back wall. The lounge area opens to the right with seating near the fire place with a fully stocked book case and t.v. Leading from the lounge is the bathroom with toilet plus another separate toilet.

Upstairs: There are 2 bedrooms and 1 playroom for younger children where we can provide additional beds.

All bedrooms have views over the surrounding grounds and countryside.

About Chatenet in Charente-Maritime, Poitou Charentes

Chatenet Gites are in the heart of the Charente Maritime region renowned for its local production of cognac and aperitif pineau and close to all major towns.

Montendre - The nearest market town is 10 minutes away and has some bars and restaurants to sample the French cuisine and also has the nearest supermarket for all your shopping needs.

Bordeaux - Perfect for retail therapy, which is less than an hour away.

La Rochelle - 1hr 30minutes but has everything from shopping to yachts and a very large aquarium to keep the kids occupied.

Cognac - This historical town is 30mins to the north and well worth visiting to go on a distillery tour and also has a growing reputation as a town hosting many film and music festivals.

Angouleme - A cathedral town about an hour away, which hosts the Centre National De la Bande Dessinee de l'Image, a museum and multimedia, centre dedicated to comic strip art and cartoons.

Montguyon - Beau Vallon is a fantastic lake beach 20 minutes away with an open-air restaurant or take your own picnic for the day.

Jonzac - Features "Le Antilles" an indoor aquatic leisure park for the children and only 20 minutes drive.

St George de Didonne/Royan - The sun, sand and sea are only an hour away at these holiday beach resort towns to be enjoyed by all the family.

Bassin d Arcachon/Dune Du Pila - Has the highest sand dune in Europe will take 1hr 30mins but the breath taking views will make it worth while.

Saintes - A river town an hour away full of roman history marked by the remains of the Amphitheatre and Arc of Germanicus. Take in the sights with a boat trip on La Charente river.

(Excludes any comfort breaks)

Fly with Ryanair, Flybe or Easyjet to Bordeaux or Angouleme Airport taking advantage of the cheap flights from most UK airports.

We can provide airport transfer for up to 6 people and travel time to Chatenet is approx 40mins from Bordeaux and Angouleme. All other airports Bergerac, La Rochelle between 1-2hrs.

Dear Bal, Aaran & Rocky, Thank you for the little touches - the baby swing bought out for Adam, the walnuts & beetroot and the quiet conversations giving us information, yes but also establishing a friendly outlook to new faces.

The Grand Gite gives great flexibility and works well for an extended family. The weather started off poorly for us - but a good soaking is what France needed people kept telling us. Glad to say it picked up towards the end of the week and we managed to get to the beach 3 days running. One of the highlights was The Dunes de Pilate and Pons is a good place to sit & watch the people. We appreciated the lovely quiet to return to, and the easy environment to barbecue with Rocky in waiting. Then chat, play cards till bedtime!

Just a small note to let you know how much we have enjoyed our week with you. We really couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay or a kinder family to have next door to us. You welcomed us into your home and it felt like we were old friends catching up. Throughout our stay all 3 of you (plus2) have made us feel welcome (sorry if we got you into trouble Aaran when we made you late for tea) The evenings in the Jacuzzi were magical. I'll stop rambling now. We wish you all the best for the future and hope we can return in the future to your little piece of heaven.

Bal & David are the most hospitable people I have ever met. The Gites themselves, having stayed now in both, are outstanding in terms or comfort, cleanliness and amenities. Having travelled all over the world, I only truly relax at Chatenet Gites

Having stayed there 6 or 7 times now, each time we are astounded at the beautiful Chatenet village and its surrounding area. Bordeaux is an outstanding City, steeped in history and beautiful architecture. In fact this whole region of France is truly breathtaking and Chatenet is a fantastic base from which to explore.

The Sanctuary is an added bonus. Massage, Jacuzzi, Sauna, beauty treatments and pampering for all ... 

The tranquillity, the air, the fantastic hosts, food and wine ... a truly magical place. My family and I cannot recommend Chatenet Gites highly enough ... spread the word ... a little slice of heaven deep in France.
