This “petite maison” nestles within an unspoilt Catalan hilltop village in the foothills of the Pyrenees, only a 5-minute drive from the colourful market town of Prades. Stunning views of Mount Canigou, with snow on its peaks for most of the year, can be enjoyed both from the house and the small garden and terraces, which adjoin it.

Ideal for two couples, or a family with older children, this simply furnished home has a log burning stove, spacious kitchen/diner and lounge, with panoramic views from all of the windows. It provides an ideal base to relax and/or explore the beautiful surroundings, and is well situated for all year round activities.

• Entrance via front terrace to main door.
• Open plan kitchen/diner area, equipped with oven, fridge/freezer, microwave. Breakfast/dining table and four chairs. Log burning stove. Electric radiator. Entrance leading from kitchen into:
• A small comfortable lounge, with sofa/sofabed, chairs, radio/CD player, DVD player and electrical radiator. Wonderful views of the mountains can be seen from the dual aspect windows.

Small staircase leading from the kitchen up to the first floor landing, leading to two bedrooms and bathroom. The house is unsuitable for small children or for individuals with limited mobility.

• Cosy double bedroom, with comfortable bed and beautiful views. Electric radiator.
• Second bedroom, with two single beds and lovely views. Electric radiator.
• Bathroom, fitted with bath, hand shower, washbasin, bidet and toilet.

Additional shelving/storage is situated in lobby area behind bathroom.

To the lower ground floor of the house, is:

• A multi purpose basement, which provides for additional sleeping accommodation. Extra beds are available in case of need. Electric radiator.
• A second bathroom and storage area is also found on the lower ground floor, providing toilet, shower, washbasin, washing machine. Please note that access to the main part of the house from the basement/lower ground bathroom, is unavailable at the present time.

Outside Facilities

• Small garden/shrub area, and lower and upper terraces, all affording panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Garden table and chairs, recliners and gas barbecue.
• Car parking is available in the free parking areas within the village and within easy walking distance of the house.

About the location

Located on the river Tet, Ria is just 5 minutes drive from the vibrant market town of Prades. The village itself boasts a wide range of amenities - boulangerie, bar, restaurant, chemist, post office, children’s playground, basket ball court, tennis court, corner shop/butcher and the railway station is close by. The colourful Catalan market town of Prades has a lively market every Tuesday morning. It is also home to the Pablo Casals music festival held every July/August. With its café-lined main square and beautiful church it’s a lovely place to while away the hours.

The historic fortified town of Villefranche du Conflent is just 5 minutes away. It offers a range of restaurants and interesting shops selling an array of local crafts and produce. It is also the starting point of the Petit Train Jaune. A unique narrow gauge mountain railway that takes you on a breathtaking journey through the Pyrenees.

Perpignan is a lively cosmopolitan city, where you can enjoy a drink along the café lined Rive Gauche, wander through the maze of boutique-lined back street or enjoy a meal in one of the many excellent restaurants. During the months of July and august there are ‘Perpignan Jeudis – where you can enjoy free live music, dancing and entertainment in every place in the old part of town.

This is a great base for local walks and for exploring the regions heritage – Romanesque churches, Abbeys and Cathar castles. For art lovers there is the Musee D’Arte Moderne at Ceret and the Salvador Dali Museum at Figueres. The medieval city of Carcassone is 1hr 45 mins away, Andorra is 2 hours away and Barcelona is 2 1/2 hrs away. The Mediterranean beach resorts of Canet, Argeles and St Cyprien are all within 1 hours drive. As is the picturesque old fishing port of Collioure.

The Languedoc Rousillion is one of the largest wine producing regions in the world and many of the local vineyards offer wine tasting and tours. Between the months of December and the end of March the ski resorts of Les Angles and Font Romeau are easily accessible. A trip to the hot, natural spring, open-air baths at St Thomas Les Bains on the way home is the perfect way to end the day.

By motorway from north to south use A9 motorway “la catalane”. Take a choice of 3 exits: Perpignan North, Perpignan South and La Boulou

By Rail

SNCF railway station at Perpignan. Destination Pyrenees Rousillion direct line to Paris, Gerona & Barcelona, Rome Vintimille (via Marseille), Geneva (via Lyon & Geneva)

By Air

There are a wide choice of airlines and airports. Perpignan, Gerona, Barcelona, Toulouse, Marseille, Montpellier, Nimes, Carcassonne. Perpignan is the most convenient at less than 40 mins away. However Gerona is also a good option, less than 1hr 45mins, particularly if you are travelling from the north of the UK. Stanstead – Perpignan with Ryanair Birmingham – Perpignan with Flybe Southampton – Perpignan with Flybe Manchester – Girona and Liverpool – Girona with Ryanair.
