About the location

The local market towns of Villaines La Juhel and Sille Le Guillaume are 15 minutes by car and both have traditional weekly markets and a large supermarket, plenty of other shops and good restaurants.

The forest at Sille Le Guillaume has an excellent lake and beach for picnics, sand castles, swimming and all the watersports. Also, you can walk or cycle and explore the large forest.

The gite provides an ideal touring base for visiting the Le Mans racing circuit and museum which has many events throughout the year (40 minutes by car), Paris which is 1.5 hours on the train from Le Mans, Giverney (2.5 hours) to visit Monet’s garden and the beautiful Loire Valley (2 hours) to see the many Chateaux and maybe do some wine tasting.

There are many other attractions within a short drive such as Roman remains, medieval forts, castles, Adventure In The Trees Park and many historic towns and Chateaux.

5/5/11

This lovely stone cottage has been beautifully renovated with great attention to detail. It is by far the best & thoughtfully equipped cottage we have rented in France.   Two lovely patios with furniture and barbecue ensure sun and shade is available all day. The owners, Amanda and Bryan, were very helpful but not intrusive. The cottage is very rural and therefore peaceful and absolutely private, but close enough by car to large supermarket and the local boulangerie is walkable. There are many interesting places to visit close by and the nearby lake at Sille is superb, and free (including parking!). To sum up, we could not have selected a better holiday gite.
