Home description

Built into the spacious old barn, we have created three luxury two bedroom gîtes, a mezzanine studio apartment and an art studio, providing comfort, space and total relaxation.

From a couple, to groups of fourteen or more, we aim to provide a holiday that exceeds your expectations. Our gites, and the studio, are particularly suited to people who may want to holiday together, but not necessarily share accommodation. After four successful years, the many friends we have acquired who make return visits, lead us to believe we are doing it right.

The spacious garden setting, among the vineyards, is maturing beautifully.

Except for the high season, we try to be flexible as possible for ‘off week’ bookings.

This apartment is aproximately 100 sq.m and features:

Ground Floor

• Spacious through-plan Kitchen and lounge-dining area
• Fully fitted kitchen
• Terracotta tiled floors
• Comfortable and high quality furnishings

First Floor

• Two bedrooms - one double, one twin with top quality bedding.
• Two en suite bathrooms - one with bath and the other with a shower.

Laundry room with washing machine & drier and separate clothes line.

Please, no smoking in the gites.

Outside:

From the lounge French windows lead out westwards onto private sitting areas, in the shade of our magnificent silver birch. An acre of garden, with a 12x6m saltwater swimming pool, with pool house and barbeque facilities. Full pool equipment, loungers, parasols etc. To the North there is a beautiful wild flower meadow, towering cedar trees and the vineyards.

Ample parking, and pool alarm complying with French safety standards.

About the location

We are situated near the historic market town of Castillon-la-Bataille (where, in 1452, the English finally lost the hundred year war. The annual re-enactment of this battle is held in July and August, and is truly spectacular).

We are on the ridge overlooking the lower Dordogne valley, and backed by the vineyards of the Bergerac appellation. The prosperity of this region was largely founded on the English presence and their taste for the wine, so historic memory may account for the warmth with which the current British invasion is received!

While a car is essential, we strongly recommend using the local rail travel for visits to Bordeaux and along the Dordogne valley to Bergerac and Sarlat, both truly worthwhile day trips. Local restaurants favour the traditional French cuisine, but are very good at that!

How to get here

It is an easy journey from the UK whether by car or plane.

By ferry: We are approximately 350 miles from St Malo, 500 miles from Calais & Boulogne. Both are easy journeys using the excellent French motorway network.

By air: Should you wish to fly and hire a car we are situated just 35 minutes from Bergerac airport, and an hour from Bordeaux.

By car: Find the village of Lamothe Montravel, and exit on the D9, signposted 'Saint-Michel-la-Montaigne'. The next three left turns are all signposted 'Le Mathelin'.
