Les Chenes is a spacious, sunny house which has been fully renovated to high standards. It is ¼ mile down a leafy lane from the busy village of Rouvray, in the Morvan National Park. It sits proudly in large gardens, with an orchard of cherry and apple trees, a large private swimming pool with secluded sunbathing terraces and is surrounded by fields and beautiful views down an agricultural valley with sunsets to die for. The gardens have the sun all day but there are several large trees to rest and dine under if needed with several dining areas. There is also a large wood shed with 2 swings inside, a large trampoline and a fire pit for evening entertainment and secure storage for bikes etc.

The Morvan Park is an all season area and not just a summer tourist place where everything shuts down out of season. There are lots of outdoor and indoor events held throughout the seasons, just check with the tourist informations offices in Avallon, Saulieu and Quarre les Tombes This is a really old part of France and all the villages are working villages, the out door sports are all year round and the restaurants are always busy with the locals and weekenders down from Paris who use this area as the British use areas such as the New Forest & the Lake district...somewhere to clear your head and enjoy the simpler things in life, this area is refreshingly different, friendly and vibrant. You will leave it loving it!
Les Chenes is a light and airy, renovated, secluded, spacious french house with central heating, 5 bedrooms, beautiful fully fitted kitchen, 3 bathrooms, luxury private swimming pool with large sunbathing areas,privacy hedges and locking gate, large private gardens with a fire pit and BBQ, a wood shed swings and car port.
The front door leads into:
Off the dining area is a lovely stairway with large windows overlooking the valley and fields. This leads down to the cellars and gardens and up to the first floor.
There is a long gallery landing leading to two large double bedrooms and two large single bedrooms. The fifth bedroom and bathroom is downstairs.
All rooms are in good decorative order, have beamed ceilings and colour washed walls and good storage cupboards.
The 4 metre x 9 metre swimming pool is sunk into a terraced area with hedges and screens making it very private along with a security code locking gate There are walk in steps into the pool which has the sun all day and has sunbathing areas on all sides and lovely views across the valley on one side. There is a barbeque area with a huge table and chairs set next to the pool and well with plenty shady trees to dine under and watch the sunsets next to a lovely firepit. There is a huge car parking area and plenty space for football, badminton etc, with 2 swings in the wood store, a latge trampoline and a fire pit. Under the house is a locking room for storing your bikes etc.(Please note that we DO NOT accept any responsobility for injuries sustained whilst using the swings, trampoline or fire pit, if you wish for any of them to be removed please let us know.)
Les Chenes sits on a tiny lane just outside the village so it is nice and quiet and it is lovely to stroll down the lane for a mile or so to see the horses at the bottom and carry on through the woods or round to the etang at Bussieres. You do not need a car to get into the village it is a short walk or bike ride.
Rouvray village is perfectly sited in the Morvan National Park and also has easy access to Dijon, Auxerre, Chablis, Beaune,Vezelay and Flavigny sur Ozerain (the home of the film Chocolat).
Rouvray is a typical old rustic French village and yet it has a bakery, pizzeria, 2 bars, 3 restaurants, a supermarket, petrol station and a hairdressers. It is a very friendly village and also has some lovely walks by the river, good cycling lanes, an etang and some wonderful architecture, including Roman features. It also has a large boules area under an avenue of lime trees and a sports field.
The Morvan National Park offers everything for the outdoors, with many Lakes and rivers covering all watersports. There are regular village fetes, car boot sales, music festivals and the week of celebrations covering the Bastille are incredible. The area is wonderful throughout all the seasons, spring and autumn are particularly beautiful. This is a well loved sporting area for the french, you name it, you can do it!
Avallon is the nearest major town (10 minutes drive) it has an indoor and outdoor market, it has beautiful floral displays and bustles with activity, especially around the street cafes and bars. It too holds many fetes and festivals a 4 week music festivals, lantern parades and car boot sales.It also has a giant Auchan supermarket on the outskirts along with many shops for an afternoons browsing, the famous Trocs with many antiques and curios, clothes, chocolatiers and ofcourse the wonderful cake shops!

Rouvray lies in the north of the Morvan National Park in Burgundy. It is just a few minutes to the N6 and A6, 5 hours to Calais, 6 hours from Zeebrugge (Hull ferry) 1 hour on the TGV to Paris and Euro disney (direct) from Montbard. 5 hours to London on the TGV/Lille Eurostar. The A6 whisks you to Dijon or Auxerre in less that 1 hour with many famous towns such as Chablis, Vezelay and Beaune nearby.

There is an orchard, a play area, a large trampoline and next to the house is a private large swimming pool with a large sunbathing patio to all sides, walk in steps and it is surrounded by a privacy hedge and secured gate with padlock. There is a barbeque and fire pit which make it very easy for outdoor dining in the evening looking across the valley and watching the sunsets. The woodshed has 2 large swings for the 'older children' and a good area for Boules and badminton There is a large storage room under the house for bikes etc.The leafy lane is perfect for a lazy stroll and the village which is just a 10 minute stretch. |
