A traditional built stone barn close to Bourg sur Gironde in the southwest of France. Nestled amidst picturesque villages and manicured vineyards just 30 mins from the centre of Bordeaux.

The property is easily accessible from Bordeaux airport and A 10 motorway.

Outside

• Swimming pool - Heated pool 12m x 8m plenty of sun loungers and sunshades ( now walled for more sercurity )
• Patio - your own privte patio with table chairs, sunshade and barbecue.
• Garden - there is lots of room for the kids to run about  and also table tennis.
• Play area - swinging sliding and climbing will tire them out. Crazy golf. The kids will also love our donkeys and fluffy headed chickens.
• Bikes - there are 6 adults and 4 kids (7 -11 year old ) bikes and baby seat free for you to use as you like.

Accommodation detail

Merlot gite accommodates up to 8 people plus babies. The restored barn has retained much of it's original stone walls and wooden beams to make a beautiful holiday home oozing rustic charm.

Ground floor

Kitchen, dining room and lounge share an open plan room.

• Country kitchen area -  is spacious and fully equipped with all you would expect from a modern kitchen. It has gas hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, large fridge/freezer, kettle and toaster.
• Dining area - has a huge wooden table which seats up to ten and highchair just perfect for family breakfasts, leisurely lunches and relaxing suppers.
• Lounge/ TV area - has plenty of cosy seating, coffee table and a wood-burning fire for the cooler months also provided. The TV area is away from the lounge and has satellite TV, DVD player with many films. Two sets of French doors open onto the terrace with table and chairs, barbecue. Overlooking the gardens and pool, just relax with a glass of local wine and watch the sun set over the vines.
• Utility room - with washing machine, toilet, iron and ironing board.

Stairs have stair gates if needed.

First floor

• Bedroom 1 - has a double antique rose wood bed, linen and plenty of towels in the en suite shower room. Overlooking the pool and countryside.
• Bedroom 2 - has a double bed and is a lovely light room also over looking the pool and gardens with en suite shower room
• Bedrooms 3-4 - are twin bedrooms
• Bathroom - with corner bath with shower, toilet and basin.

About the location

Vine house and gites are situated on the edge of a small hamlet surounded by vineyards wonderfull for walking and cycling.

Bourg-Sur-Gironde is five minutes away. Built on a rocky outcrop, this fortified village overlooks the picturesque gironde estuary. As you explore the village, at every turn you find impressive buildings with beautiful architectural features. There is a lively market each Sunday morning . Bourg has a number of excellent restaurants and cafes, and throughout the year there are fetes and events to celebrate everything imaginable, such as garlic, cheese, asparagus.

The drive to Blaye ten minutes away will take you past the Roman villa and troglodyte settlement at Plassac. Once at Blaye, the port has a car ferry which takes you to the Medoc area with huge pine forests and over two hundred miles of white sandy beaches. The centre of Blaye is dominated by a magnificent citadel, the hillside fortress stands guard over the town and river. Blaye has a large Saturday market where you can sample and buy many local delicacies.

The surrounding area has something for everyone. There are sporting activities for the energetic, history sites to visit for the less energrtic, and the beach resorts. Bordeaux with it’s trendy river Frount, cobbled alley ways, antique shops and café life. A visit to Cognac’s brandy houses is a must, for the kid’s aqualand and the zoo at Royan covering 30 acres & 1600 animals are great days out, and don’t forget the wine. As if you could! with a chateau around ever corner, free tastings and very reasonable prices you’ll be spoilt for choices.
