Home description

The private, secluded enclave of Maison St. Jean is situated in the village of Cruscades in the South of France. Cruscades is about 25 minutes drive east of Carcassonne and 15 minutes drive west of Narbonne in the heart of the winegrowing Corbiere with easy access to the nearby Canal du Midi, the Mediterranean coast, Pyrenees and cities like Narbonne, Montpelier and Carcassonne.

This is a spacious, tastefully refurbished house dating from 1816. The house which sleeps 8 in great comfort faces the 13th century church of St. John the Evangelist and at the rear overlooks the beautiful courtyard and garden area.

Ground Floor

• Kitchen and dining room - a spacious and comprehensively furnished kitchen with breakfast bar; equipped with microwave, electric hob and oven, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine with tumble drier. The back door opens on to the rear patio for al fresco meals. The adjacent sizeable dining area accommodates eight. A high chair is available.
• Hall - a tiled hall with cloakroom and WC leads to the first floor and
• Lounge - the large and well furnished lounge with parquet floor has windows to the front and French windows onto the tiled patio at the rear overlooking the courtyard and garden. An eclectic selection of reading material.

First Floor

The staircase, landing and all bedrooms have parquet floor throughout. The accommodation consist of:

• Bedroom 1 - a tastefully appointed double bedded room overlooking the Place de l”Église.
• Shower Room -a tiled room with washbasin and thermostatically controlled mains pressure shower.
• Bedroom 2 - a beautiful spacious double bedroom with king size bed and delightful views over the garden and courtyard .
• WC - a separate tiled WC.
• Bedroom 3 - another airy, well appointed twin bedded room overlooking the garden area.
• Bathroom - a beautiful tiled bathroom with hand basin, WC and bath with thermostatically controlled mains pressure shower.
• Bedroom 4 - a delightful bunk bedded room overlooking the Place de l” Église. A mobile cot is available.

Outside

Patio with dining area for 8, a lovely location for al fresco dining. courtyard garden, main garden, swimming pool and barbecue area with gas barbecue.

At the front of the house there is parking in the Place de l” Église.

About the location

Places of Interest

The Canal du Midi is only a few minutes away with boat rental or day trips available on this World Heritage site. The 13th Century La Cite in Carcassonne is a must for visitors to this area, likewise Narbonne only a short drive away. A trip to Barcelona will take about 2 hours and en route to the Spanish border there are many beautiful villages on the Mediterranean coast less than an hour away.

For the historic site seer this is the Pays Cathare with a multitude of abbeys, monasteries and castles. Particularly popular with the Da Vinci Code and Labyrinth addicts.

Fishing and white water sports in the mountains and wind surfing galore at Narbonne Plage. A wide variety of restaurants including 3 with Michelin stars less than 30 minutes away.

The beautiful scenery varies from the Montagne Noir, the National Park area, over the lower ground, down to the Mediterranean and up to the Pyrenees with skiing 90 minutes away in winter. Lots of wine, the most in the world, and plenty of places to taste and buy. Lézignan-Corbières market is a must on Wednesdays and Narbonne on Thursdays and Sundays.
