Looking for a complete break away from it all with delicious food and wine? Then you will love life at Le Vieux Relais, our 18th century coaching inn with pool, sun terrace and walled courtyard garden set on the edge of the village square. We create a package ‘just for you’ from a few nights B&B to a holidays of a week or two - or more! - and our flexible accommodation suits a wide variety of needs.

Please note that we have a minimum stay of 2 nights during high season.

All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, seating areas and ceiling fans to keep them comfortably cool in summer. We have a large lounge with satellite TV books and board games. Guests eat either in the dining room, which seats 18, or outside on our summer dining terrace.

Eat in or out!

In summer guests can enjoy meals outside in the pretty courtyard garden or under cover on our colonnaded terrace if the sun gets too hot! 

• Dinner is available at least five nights each week at 25 euros per person and discounts are available for children depending on the age (and eating capacity!) of the child.
• Mike’s delicious barbecues are a feature of the long summer evenings.
• Picnic lunches made up of fresh local produce are always available and we include homemade hot soup in winter.

Accommodation detail

Here at Le Vieux Relais we offer our guests something different, our catered service takes care of the cooking and cleaning and guests are free to relax and enjoy themselves!

The house offers very flexible accommodation to suit a wide variety of needs including a ground floor suite for those with limited mobilty, two suites suitable for families with smaller children, a twin bedroom for adults or older children and two second floor suites for adults only. All the bedrooms offer ensuite bathrooms and seating areas and the ground and first floor rooms all take an extra bed(s) or cot with plenty of space to spare. Just let us know what you need and we'll advise on the best way to accommodate your party.

The swimming pool and pool terrace are completely enclosed and situated within the sun-filled courtyard garden, which leads to the outside dining terrace where Mike's mouth-watering BBQs are just part of the culinary experience that awaits you!

About the location

Pepieux is a medium size village with a grocer-cum-butcher shop, a small ladies dress shop, a pharmacy, a post office, a news agent, a very good bakery with bread baked on the premises and a bar. Every weekday there are different vans in the square, selling anything from fabrics to flowers to meat and fish. This is a wine producing village and the workers keep at it all year, spraying, pruning and tending the vines in various ways - wine production is very labour intensive!

This is a wonderful area for a holiday at any time of year, as the climate is mild, with occasional cold snaps (we have excellent central heating and warm duvets!) and of course, in the off-season months, there are few tourists. This part of France produces over 80% of French wine, so there are wine "caves" to visit in every village and many different chateaux, where one may taste the local products and buy wine at very good prices indeed. Aside from that, this is a very well situated place for sightseeing.

Carcassonne with its historic walled Cite is only 25 mins away and the beautiful Canal du Midi is 5 mins away - both of these are designated World Heritage sites.
