Home description

This beautiful 200 year old Charentaise farmhouse offers luxury chambres d’hotes and gites with use of a heated pool and jacuzzi.  Located in the village of Louzignac, La Maison des Grands Bambous is set in an acre and a half of interesting and tranquil gardens with walled pool and large terrace housing jacuzzi, spacious shaded bar and barbecue area. This is an ideal place if you are seeking a relaxing holiday or house hunting. We also offer gourmet dining, using fruit and vegetables from the garden and local produce; making your stay luxurious and special.  We are 3 star Tourist Board Approved and highly recommended on TripAdvisor.

Set amongst vineyards and fields of sunflowers, we are well situated for visits to Cognac, Saintes, Angouleme, Royan and the airports of La Rochelle and Poitiers as well as many charming French market towns, churches and historic sites. We can also offer help with house hunting and local artisans.

We have three cottages and four chambre d'hotes available. Each cottage has been recently renovated to a high standard to provide extremely comfortable and well-appointed accommodation with electric central heating. They comprise of two double en-suite bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin) with Italian bathrooms, excellent mattresses, bedside lamps, clock radio and hair dryer. We have tried to think of everything to make your stay special.

If you just want to 'chill' or have overdone the touring and sightseeing, why not relax on the terrace by the pool with a cool glass of something, sit under a tree in the garden with a book listening to the birds or have a quiet game of croquet. Perhaps you fancy a jacuzzi to soothe away the aches and pains of more strenuous excercise, followed by a drink in the adjacent bar area.

There is a boating and fishing lake 10 minutes drive.  For the wildlife enthusiasts and photographers, the nearby countryside has plants, birds and butterfliens which are rare and difficult to find in UK and are easily located on foot or bicycle.

There is something for everyone, young or old, all year round in the area.

About the location

The nearest restaurant is a delightful, family run auberge, in the hamlet of Coucoussac. Whilst the nearest bar and boulangerie are to be found in the villages of Siecq or Sonnac. There is also a small bar, mini-supermarket, tabac and post office in Sonnac and Ballans. All these facilities are about 2 kilometres away and within easy walking or cycling distance.
