Home description

This pretty 400 year old Quercy house, like a hawk’s nest, has stunning panoramic views across the beautiful valley. The house is on four different levels with over an acre and a half of land. The garden, with its boules pitch, cave and rock pool, will keep you fit, as will the mountain bikes and, of course, the swimming pool, which is alarmed.

La Dournie is not really suitable for children under the age of 6 or for the people with walking difficulties and it is essential to have one adult by the pool at all times when minors are present. There are many things to do in the surrounding area but if you prefer to relax, the house offers privacy and tranquility. Guests can sit on the large terrace whilst overlooking the pretty tear-drop shaped swimming pool, eating, drinking and relaxing accompanied by that wonderful view. On clear nights you will also be treated to a magnificent view of the solar system and Milky Way.

La Dournie is a rambling old house with a great deal of rustic charm, ancient, thick stone walls, large wooden beams and tiled flooring. It is comfortably furnished and has many individual touches for guests to enjoy, such as candles, jigsaws and board games, books, magazines and DVDs.

The accommodation comprises:

Upstairs

• Bedroom 1 – a double four-poster bed and marvellous views
• Shower room – with toilet and basin
• Bedroom 2 – comfortable adult-sized twin beds

Ground Floor

• Sitting area - Large living area with one large comfy 3-seat sofa and two well-sized armchairs, wood-burning stove, television, DVD player, an extensive collection of DVDs, books and board games
• Dining area – large dining table seating 4-6
• Kitchen – the rustic kitchen with its charming old fireplace and pretty wood-burning stove has fitted wooden kitchen units. There is a gas hob and cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker and a good selection of pots, pans and crockery. The kitchen table seats 4-6.

• Bedroom 4 – another pretty room with gorgeous views over the pool and a double iron bedstead

All beds are of high quality have good mattresses, duvets and pure cotton bedlinen. There is plenty of hot water.

Lower Ground Floor

• A narrow staircase winds down from the ground floor to the
• Lower bathroom. The bathroom has recently been beautifully refurbished with a walk-in shower, bath, toilet and basin.  It is particularly handy for those using the pool and terrace.
• Utilty room – leads from bathroom and then out to pool area. There is a washing machine and drying area. Ironing facilities and hoover are available.

Outside

• There is a large terrace overlooking the beautiful tear-shaped pool, which is built out from the hillside below. Because there is a sheer drop on one side of the pool to the garden, it is essential that adults are present at all times with children
• The pool measures 9m x 4m and goes from 1m to 1.6m in depth, with a patio and seating around along one side. Steps lead down to the garden below
• The terraced garden has a boules pitch (a boules set is provided) and an exquisite cave and pond where you can watch the frogs and newts in the shade. As with the pool, we stress that children should be supervised at all times when near the cave
• The terrace area has seating for 10, one big table, two large wooden parasols and a Barbeque. There are a number of sun loungers
• We also offer two new adult-sized mountain bikes (and one helmet)for guests to enjoy
• There is parking for 3 cars

About the location

The picturesque medieval village of Roquecor is just 5 minutes away by car or you could take a pleasant walk through woods (and enjoy the beautiful butterflies in May). Roquecor has a popular Sunday market an excellent family restaurant, with live music and special themed evenings.

Also nearby are Montaigu de Quercy (easily reached by bike) and Montcuq, both attractive villages with excellent markets offering fresh seasonal foods. There are also good supermarkets, banks, pharmacist and a post office close by.

The ancient village of Lacour is well worth a visit and has a very good Creperie restaurant.

Beauville and Tournon are two beautiful bastide villages close by with restaurants, bars and wonderful views.

The beautiful River Lot with its mile after mile of vineyards, fields of sunflowers, chateaux, bastides is less than half an hour away and there are several larger towns within easy reach, such as Cahors and Agen with their more sophisticated shops and restaurants.

You can visit world-famous Roquemador, prehistoric caves, sample truffles and foie gras and two hours away is the medieval city of Carcasonne and the Pyrennes.

How to get here

The house is around an hour from Bergerac Airport (Ryanair) and an hour and a half from Toulouse airport (Easyjet).  If driving from the UK by car, the house is approximately a 45 minutes to an hours drive from Cahors (Autoroute A20).  There is a high-speed rail link from Paris to our nearest rail station, Agen, which is around 20 minutes by taxi/car from the house.
