Our home is the edge of the small hamlet of Montfort, overlooked by the Château de Montfort, minutes from the River Dordogne and in the heart of the Périgord Noir. At only 4 kilometres from the renowned medieval town of Sarlat, we are perfectly located for all the major sites of the Dordogne Valley, yet in a tranquil location.
As recommended by Geoguide and Rick Steve's Guide.
Numerous châteaux, spectacular villages and historic sites will compete for your time with outdoor activities such as walking, horse-riding, canoeing, fishing, golf and more besides.
Alternatively just sit back, relax and enjoy the view of the Château de Montfort from our gardens and swimming pool.
We offer 4 double/ triple bedrooms and a family suite of 2 bedrooms with 2 shower-rooms. All individual, they are stylishly furnished and decorated to a high standard, with luxury ensuite facilities. Each bedroom has television and is refreshed daily. Private access to all rooms allows guests to come and go as they please. Each bedroom also has its own seating area outside, with views of the Château. All of the rooms are on the ground floor and one is specifically designed for those less able-bodied, with wheelchair access throughout the bedroom and shower-room.
The pool has poolside furniture and is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the sunshine and views. Our garden has swings for the children, a table-tennis table, badminton and boules. There is a barbecue and outside dining area, with views of the Château and a guest fridge available for your drinks. The kitchen can also be used to prepare light snacks and salads, with glasses, crockery and cutlery available (dinner available occasionally with advance notice). The Château (outside viewing only as it is privately owned) is a short walk away, with access to the river and a beach with canoe hire a 15 minute walk away.
Marie is suitable for 2 people only and the ensuite wet room is large and fully tiled, with a shower. The room is classically decorated with an antique wardrobe. It has independant access, leading to the garden. There are views to the Chateau de Montfort from the windows and an outside seating area.
The room is specially designed to cater for disabled clients, giving full wheelchair access.
The Château de Montfort and its hamlet are at the heart of the Dordogne Valley, within easy reach of many places of interest –too many to mention fully. Three of the “Plus Beaux Villages de France” are within 10 minutes drive of La Barde; the Bastide village of Domme, and the riverside villages of Beynac and La Roque Gageac. The châteaux of Beynac, Castelnaud, Milandes, Fenelon and Puymartin can all be visited with ease, as can the formal gardens at Eyrignac and Marqueyssac.
This part of the Dordogne valley is well known as the “Pays de l’homme”, with Les Eyzies being the “Capital of Prehistory”. In and around Les Eyzies are many places to visit and marvel at our ancestor’s way of life including Font de Gaume and the Museum of Prehistory at Les Eyzies, Roque St Christophe and Lascaux nearby.
The beautiful town of Sarlat (10 minutes away) with its narrow medieval streets, and well preserved buildings is full of interesting shops and many restaurants. Twice weekly markets are a must for the visitor to the region, as all of the gastronomic specialities of the Périgord can be bought there. Summer evenings in Sarlat are spectacular. Sit outside and enjoy street musicians and entertainers, especially during the music and drama festival.
Rocamadour, the famous pilgrimage site is only a short drive and well worth visiting, even just to marvel at the village clinging to the cliffs.

La Barde - Montfort is situated on the D703, between Vitrac and Carsac-Aillac, and signposted from the Chateau de Montfort. From Sarlat follow the D57, then the D46 to Vitrac.
