Enjoy the quiet village life close to the coast and mountains. “8 Rue du Four” is a fully restored village house on three floors with a terrace overlooking a lovely square with oleander bushes. The square is pedestrian accessible only, although it is possible to squeeze a car up to unload luggage. 

Opoul is a friendly wine-producing village overlooked by a ruined 12th century chateau. The village is small enough that everything is within a couple of minute’s walk, and has that sleepy laid-back feel of the area.

Accommodation detail

• Kitchen – newly fitted (2011) with electric hob and oven, dishwasher, and a range of storage units, and all the equipment you would expect to find in a UK, or French, Kitchen.
• Salon- This room is decorated to match the kitchen with a tiled floor, white walls and exposed beams. There are two sofas and an easy chair. There is a Radio/CD Player, TV, DVD player plus a selection of DVDs. A book case contains our house book, and a huge selection of ‘things to do’ leaflets and brochures.

• Large twin bedroom (fully fitted), with French windows, overlooking square.
• Double bedroom (fully fitted), French windows, overlooking square.
• Bathroom with bath/shower, washbasin, bidet and WC.

• Large twin bedroom (fully fitted), with French windows, overlooking square.
• Large bathroom with WC, washbasin and, shower cubicle. Washing machine is located here to be near the drying area.

Terrace, with table and chairs and barbecue. Faces southwest and is deal for watching the sunset! We like to sit here and have evening aperitifs, and occasionally have dinner here.

About the location

Opoul is a friendly wine-producing village overlooked by a ruined 12th century chateau. The village is small enough that everything is within a couple of minute’s walk, and has that sleepy laid-back feel of the area. You will found Catalan spoken extensively here.

Some of the features of the village include:

• A local shop (think Co-Op), and an excellent boulangerie. We always enjoy the one-minute walk for breakfast croissants and a newspaper.
• A stadium with tennis and basketball.
• A “boulodrome”.
• A well-equipped children's play area.
• Two bars (less than two minutes walk away) one of which is also a restaurant.
• The castle of Opoul is famous in the region, and can be seen for miles.

We enjoy an evening stroll around the village taking in the sights and sounds.

Opoul is located 12 Km from the Mediterranean Sea and 45 minutes from the Spanish Border. The nearest large town (and airport) is Perpignan, although there are several small villages, and the market town of Rivesaltes, nearby. The Autoroute is a 15-minute drive away, with a large Carrefour Hypermarket located near the turnoff. Many guests find it convenient to shop here. The next village towards the coast is Fitou, which is famous for it’s wine, and where there are several excellent restaurants.

How to get here

• Perpignan airport is only a 20-minute drive from Opoul, and is well served by Ryanair and Flybe. Other airports within 1 ½ hour’s drive are Carcassonne, Montpellier, Bezier, and Gerona.
• Toulouse, Nimes, and Barcelona are around 2 hour’s drive. Car hire is available at all airports.
• It is a good day’s drive across France to Opoul, and we prefer to stop on the way, and arrive fresh.

Additional price information

• The house will be ready for you at 4 p.m. on the Saturday you arrive, and we would ask you to leave by 10 a.m. on the morning of the departure day. In practice these time are reasonably flexible.
• We are happy to consider booking midweek to midweek, when flights are often cheaper.
• Our local agent is available to cook for you, arrange babysitters and generally help out with local information. She speaks excellent English!
• Cot and highchair are available at a small cost.
• There is a 40-euro charge for cleaning, payable to our local agent at the end of each let.
• Winter Only –electricity charge based on usage, if central heating required.
• On receipt of your deposit and completed booking form we will send you a Confirmation of Booking detailing the balance payable including a returnable breakage deposit of £50. On receipt of the balance the key and precise directions will be sent.
