A happy haven that’s home from home. You will find us in Saint Manvieu Bocage a tranquil village in the Calvados region of Normandy set in our own grounds and pretty walled garden. The pace of life here is calm and relaxed.
Just a five minute drive away is Lake Dathee, the perfect location for water sports, golf or just a leisurely walk and just ten kilometres away is Vire "The Capital of Normandy" with it’s friendly restaurants and bars, busy market, theatre, boutiques and museum.
Originally the church presbytery, this 18th Century building has been lovingly restored to provide quality, comfortable accommodation in a friendly, family environment.
We are English and French speaking hosts who will do our utmost to ensure that your stay is relaxing and memorable. There is plenty of room for the children to let of steam, we’ve even added a play area in the garden. We can provide cots, highchairs and even a fridge in your room if required. If you want to venture out on your own for some well deserved grown up time then we are able to help with baby sitting or arrange a sitter if need be.
Continental breakfast from a local "Boulangerie" is included and to compliment we serve some of our homemade preserves and fruit compotes. A hearty, 4 course table d’hote dinner including wine or cider is available on request.
La Maison du Bocage is an excellent base for your holiday or short break and with so many places to explore in this region you won’t be disappointed. If you are looking for your own piece of Normandy we can put you in touch with reliable English and French speaking estate agents. We both really look forward to welcoming you!
Guests Comments
Gavin, Sarah and Susie, Southfields, U.K. " A real home from home. Fantastic hospitality, food, welcome and location. We are not sure whether to recommend or keep secret four ourselves."
Stuart, Carolyn, Phoebe and Lucy, Eastbourne, U.K. " You were both made for this job. I don't think any other family could match the atmosphere, friendliness or relaxing time we have had."
John, Sheryl and Paul, Kansas City, U.S.A., " After a stressful 30 hours of travelling we felt like we came home, you were so wonderfully welcoming! We had a great time here, room and food were superb! "
Sleeps 11
3 double rooms each with ensuite bathroom, 2 cots available, 1 toilet downstairs. The bedrooms are versatile, suitable for both couples and families.
All of our bedrooms have ample space for an extra bed or a cot, have tea and coffee making facilities (including a homemade treat on arrival). They are all decorated to a high standard and have beautiful views of the gardens or surrounding village.
Guests have the use of a large lounge with television, board games and children’s toys.
Our evening meals vary between Remy’s French cooking and Debbie’s more English style, whichever you are served we are sure that you will enjoy. Wine or cider is included of course! Meals can be taken in our dining room or garden.
La Maison du Bocage is right in the heart of the village next to "Le Saint Manvieu" our local bar, tabac and epicerie where Martine and Jean-Claude will be happy to serve you a traditional French lunch for around 10 euros. Opposite is the church and village green which if you’re not feeling like going far is a great spot for a picnic. If you take a wander around the village you’ll discover plenty of farm animals and stunning views of the Bocage.
Saint Sever is a mere 5 minute drive away home to the Crown Forest, perfect for picnics and exploring. Within an hours drive are the towns of Villedieu les Poeles known for it’s bell foundries, Caen the nearest city with it’s Abbey’s and Second World War Museum, Bayeux famous for it’s tapestry, the beautiful port of Honfleur, the island cathedral of Mont St Michel and Grandville well known for it’s local seafood.
We are ideally located for the D - day landing beaches most are within an hours drive.
The children will especially enjoy Aquavire with its three swimming pools and indoor and outdoor slides, the two zoo’s, both about half and hours drive away and Festyland theme park in Caen.
If you are feeling more adventurous why not try an off road four wheel drive near Lake Dathee or a bungee jump at the Viaduct Souleurve. Whatever choice you make and believe us there’s so much more to do than what’s written here we will be more than happy to help with ideas, directions and reservations.
See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.

We loved the warm welcome and friendly "at home" feel we got from the second we arrived. We liked how accommodating and keen to assist the owners were and also the delicious breakfast. It was in a lovely quiet location and had the weather been hotter and drier it would have lovely to spend the evening relaxing in the garden after a long day out.

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights at start of august - from the moment we arrived Debbie and Remy made us feel so at home. They have a beautiful house and garden and we could not have asked for better hosts - the pizza recommendation was fab! Breakfast and dinner were more than we expected and Debbie really catered for my fussy kids!
The house is an ideal base for exploring Normandy - Bayeaux, etc less than an hours drive. We had such a wonderful time thanks again you the whole family - we would recommend this B & B to anyone and hope to go ourselves next time we visit Normandy.
