About Soustons in Landes, Aquitaine
Soustons is a very popular tourist centre, but remains a place where you can still get that true French Experience. There are lots of activities (les animations) during the holiday season. Its not just close to the beach - but is also a small market town, with all of the facilities of a small market town. Markets are frequent on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday nights (during season). The town centre has over one hundred commercial activities - patisserie shops, fish mongers, boulangeries, a wine shop, as well as bike hire, banks, supermarkets and a hypermarket - with great choice and competitive - not tourist - prices.
There's a small local cinema along with an arena which holds many summertime activities - including 'bull jumping' every week - (un cours landaise -summersaults with cows - with nothing gory). (Visit Soustons Tourist Info for more information).
Soustons has pizzerias, creperies, cafes and high quality restaurants, even overlooking the lake, and all within a couple of kms, and a McDonalds at 15km away or a Michelin accredited restaurant within a short drive (Le Relais de La Poste -Magescq). Nearby - at a short drive or bike ride - are numerous long sandy beaches like Vieux Boucau, Capbreton, Hossegor and Seignosse le penon, or world class local golf courses (Seignosse, Hossegor). Within walking distance is the 800 acre activity lake of Soustons - Lac de Soustons - where you can boat, canoe, windsurf, fish, have a picnic, play at the playground or do the pedalo. There's even a tree adventure park!!. The town centre is only a gentle walk away from the property, with its 100 commercial activities. The town has three supermarkets with one located close to the property (50m) for those urgent needs and all with reasonable 'local' prices..... 24 hour petrol is around a kilometre away.
Picnic areas, cycle paths and walkways are dotted all around. The network of cycle paths start around 500m from the property (You can rollerblade too!) At the beach you can learn to surf or take an easy day on the sandy golden beaches; or people watch in the cafés overlooking the sea. For some real pampering you can visit Dax, famous for its thermal treatment centres and mineral water treatments.
You can discover the taste of fresh atlantic fish from the Capbreton fish market or local grown vegetables from the Soustons produce market, or discover local crafts at the tourist markets of Hossegor (every Sunday), Seignosse le Penon, or Soustons on Friday evening. Try the locally grown foie gras, asparagus, or peanuts. Visit the foie gras manufacturers and see how they feed the geese (gavette) and judge it for yourself.

Thank you to you and Kath for a wonderful holiday last week in Soustons. It was such a treat to stay somewhere with such brilliant facilities for children and we particularly appreciated all the toys. Our two boys had a wonderful time playing in the garden with the various garden toys and worked their way through the puzzles, dolls' houses and dressing up box when it rained.
We found the house very comfortable and well-equipped and particularly enjoyed spending time in the garden. Soustons is very well located for visiting the beach and local pine forests and we also had a happy time walking by the lake.

Thank you Paul and Kathy - we had a wonderful time, the house was fantastic and we were sorry to be coming home!!
There was nothing we could fault about the property, the equipment supplied, the cleanliness, the set out - everything was smashing - especially with small kids -and we were never concerned about their safety with the pool or other equipment. We will be highly recommending you to friends and family"

We had a great holiday thank you! The house was absolutely fantastic from all points of view, home from home and ideal for small children. Your attention to detail and safety is meticulous and you provide everything (and more!) that you could ever need to make the holiday as enjoyable and relaxing as possible. The indoor and outdoor toys were great and something new was discovered each day!!! We really did have a great week. I can only say good things about the whole experience.
My only complaint when we got home was that we should have booked 2 weeks!!"

We stayed in the house at Soustons for a week in July 09 with our 2 kids. The house itself was fantastic with everything you would need to make life comfortable and relaxing. The kids had a ball. The house is well equipped with games etc to keep them amused when they're tired. It is in a quiet area and the back garden and pool are perfect for lazy days when you don't feel like straying too far. Shops are quite close - a very short drive or a longer walk.
Soustons itself is a good central location for exploring the area. It's not far from the coast and a 30 minute drive from Biarritz airport.
I would definitely stay here again if going back to France for a family holiday. We really loved our stay. The kids have told everyone about how we were rich for the week because we had a pool.!!

We had an absolutely great time thanks! We got plenty of use out of the pool, and the children's toys were fantastic - kept our two amused all week. You thought of absolutely everything, and it made for a very comfortable stay - much better than any house we have rented before. Its the things like kids toys, high chairs, dishwasher tablets, pool toys, loo roll(!) that made life easy and meant we didn't have to rush to the supermarket.
Thanks for a great holiday.

Thanks once again for a great holiday - we won’t hesitate to recommend you to our friends and family.
We’ve just come back from 2 weeks at this great holiday house. It was like a home from home, as everything you could need is there. The kids enjoyed playing with all the toys both inside and in the garden, especially the table football. We all made good use of the table tennis table and were able to teach the girls how to play in the two weeks of our holiday. Soustons has plenty of shops and supermarkets, plus a market, which are all close by. The town may be small, but it has lots going on and the restaurants we tried, were good.
The pool is not big, but it was great for the kids who played in it all day every day (when we were not at the beach) and good for us to cool down.

A very bright, modern, clean and comfortable home in a quiet residential location. The local town is just a short walk away and has everything you could possibly need (including a fantastic market) plus having a supermarket just across the street was really convenient. Excellent location for the beaches and would particularly recommend Hossegor for good parking close to a great beach and lots of cafes. Also well placed for day trips to San Sebastian and Biarritz.

We were extremely happy with our stay at your villa. Everything was very close to the house and suitable for all of the family needs. The surf was brilliant as well as the house. Having all the facilities that you would have in your own home meant it felt like a home from home and the house had a warm feel to it..

My husband, 4 daughters (aged 16, 14, 13 and 7) and I had a lovely holiday in Soustons in early August this year. The house was clean, light, comfortable and fully equipped with all you would expect plus plenty more. The older girls were very pleased to discover that English TV was available via a digibox, while the youngest was happy to discover some Little Ponies in the toy cupboard. The garden area was lovely, with a swing seat, hammock, table tennis and bats and balls available to use. Best of all, of course, was the swimming pool, which everyone loved. Although we are all good swimmers, it was reassuring to have a pool fence and alarm, as our 14 year old has a learning disability and is unpredictable.
There was plenty to do in the area. Ten minutes walk away is the lake, where you can hire a family sized pedalo, and have a go at the tree climbing adventure course, which has a gentle section for little ones and difficult sections to challenge adults and even hardy teenagers! The whole coastline is beautiful, with plenty of beach to spread out on. We had an excellent day at Le parc Aquatique (water park) at Seignosse, which is great for all ages. Eating out is easy, with a good range of child-friendly cafes/restaurants. We really liked the fact that the area is very 'French', by which I mean that although many people there were obviously on holiday, we heard very few non-French speakers. We found local people to be friendly and appreciative of our (not very good) attempts to speak French!
I must add that Paul and Kath were extremely welcoming and friendly, even though we didn't arrive until gone 9pm due to a delayed flight, and telephoned during the week to make sure there were no problems. There are instructions for everything in the house as well as lots of local information and maps.

After venturing on our first flight with four year old twins and navigating car hire desks at nearby Bordeaux airport, we were delighted when we arrived in Soustons and the personal greeting from Paul and Kath really made it special. The fact that there were more toys, inside and out, than in our own house meant the children were entertained for the whole fortnight. As soon as they were asleep (and the blackout shutters in each room meant that this was never a problem), the toys went away into the ample storage space and the wine, cheese and local foie gras came out! An added bonus was the late evening sun on the back of the house meant we got a few more hours on the very comfy sun loungers, and one last cooling dip as the BBQ fired up.
Facilities inside were second to none – a real home from home – with loads of space to relax. Knowing the pool itself was fenced and alarmed and then the grounds as well, meant that the kids had loads of freedom, and we could actually relax and sit back. The area itself was beautiful – amazing beaches a short drive away, varied local towns all offering markets on different days, even a zoo that we went to on the one cloudy day. Soustons night market is worth a stroll into town, and I still don’t think we agree on which patisserie did the nicest croissants!
The local supermarkets meant we were always stocked up, and we didn’t ever feel we were being ripped off as tourists. We can’t recommend enough, and really hope that there are still two weeks free for next year as we will definitely be coming back. Thanks so much to you all for such an amazing holiday.

We would like to highly recommend Kath & Paul's holiday home, we have stayed with them twice and I'm sure it won't be the last.
It's a lovely holiday home in a beautiful part of France, with a fantastic coast line. It's ideal for a family holiday.
