Three fully-restored and equipped gites in the tranquil countryside heart of the picturesque Loire Valley - just 2 kms from the famous medieval city of Loches, with its own chateau, restaurants, café’s, bars, shops and lively twice-weekly market.

Relax with family and friends around a sparkling 12 x 6 metre heated swimming pool or luxuriate in the bubbling six-person spa. The three delightful oak-beamed cottages can also accommodate an exclusive party of 12, and all have their own garden/patio and barbecue area, as well as cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, TV/DVD/stereo CD, broadband internet access, full central heating and access to washing/drying facilities, the heated swimming pool - with sun-loungers & three large non-slip child-friendly steps, the spa/hot-tub, orchard play area with swings & slide, plus bicycles, trampoline, boules pitch and table-tennis.

There is also a lovely top floor suite in the Moulin which overlooks the lake and is available for nightly, weekend and short stays on a B&B basis for either 2 adults (85 euros) or a family of 4 (125 euros). Contact the friendly and flexible English-speaking owners to discuss your requirements.

Testimonials

We stayed at LE MOULIN DE BOUTINEAU (property 104795) from 16-22 August and were made enormously welcome by Julian and Jude Baskomb.
We were in the smallest gite, Le Four à Pain, but it was perfectly located with all we could need including a small private terrace overlooking the pool.
I have never enjoyed such a relaxing holiday in such a glorious setting - we did very little of our 'to see' list!
The service provided is friendly and efficient (but not intrusive) and Jude is a wonderful cook so you don't even have to go out for dinner for a super meal (and the invitation to help ourselves from the orchard was much appreciated). We rarely return to the same place twice, but I am sorely tempted.
Thanks for a wonderful stay, Jan and Ivor.

Accommodation detail

The largest of the three ‘The Fishermans Cottage’ faces the attractive courtyard and has a beautiful ancient vine decorating the stone frontage. This cottage is on two levels with one of the double bedrooms on the ground floor with its own entrance.

About the location

Le Moulin de Boutineau lies in the 'Centre' region of France called Indre-et-Loire, in a secluded countryside setting, but just two kilometres south from the medieval town of Loches, is still within easy reach of all the shops and amenities you might require, plus all the main routes around the region.

This is part of the historical heartland region of Touraine, long renowned as 'The Garden of France' and celebrated for its fine wines (Vouvray, Chinon and Bourgueil), delicious goat's cheese, near-perfect French accent and spectacular royal history.

The nearest major supermarket and a superb patisserie may be only 5 minutes drive away in the village of Perrusson, but Loches is equally close and holds lively morning markets every Wednesday and Saturday.

The colourful stalls are brimming with fresh local fruit and vegetables, amazing cheeses and sausages, plus delicious breads, pastries and spit-roasted chickens, but there are many relaxing cafes if you choose to sit and watch the world go by or enjoy a gourmet lunch at a budget price!

Loches with its maze of cobbled streets is rich in history and one of the best preserved old towns in France. For a spectacular view of the town and surrounds visit the 11th century dungeon and keep as well as the 15th century chateaux.

All the other major and minor Loire chateaux are within easy reach but graceful Chenonceau - a Renaissance classic on the River Cher and Amboise, towering above one of the prettiest town's on the Loire are among the most special to visit.  In the summer many chateaux hold evening 'son et lumiere' light or music shows.

We are not normally inclined to write reviews but felt we just had to on this occasion.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Moulin de Boutineau. We stayed in the delightful Fisherman’s Cottage – full of character but with all mod cons. It was spacious enough to accommodate our family party of 4 adults, 2 kids and one baby in comfort.

The pool area was fantastic and a dip in the hot tub on a starry night was just magic.

If you are into fishing the lake is right behind the house. We left our gear set up on the bank for the entire week so we could just nip round as and when we liked. We had most success in late evening/ early hours.  Best fish banked was a respectable 18 ½ lb.

Location wise it was spot on.  Surrounded by farms and fields you had a lovely feeling of seclusion yet were only minutes away from the beautiful medieval town of Loches, with all its traditional shops and restaurants (plus there is a huge Super U just out of town).

Special mention must go to the owners Julian and Jude great hosts and simply the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.

If you want a relaxing holiday, in quality accommodation, in a beautiful part of France look no further.

Thank you for such a wonderful holiday! We had the pleasure of staying in the Fisherman’s Cottage which had everything we needed coupled with stunning views from the bedroom. The pool is phenomenal, you will not want to get out...that is unless you fancy a soak in the hot tub!

Location is spot on; everything you would wish to visit is no more than a 30 minute drive, with local patisseries and butchers a mere 5 minutes. Loche market is a must; Apple’s fresh from the tree, Jude’s tomatoes, lazing in the hammock, a walk in the woods...speechless! Happy holidays!

We just wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed our stay at your beautiful Pecheurs gite last week - although one week was not enough!  On arrival it looks so beautiful with all the flowers, and the fact you came out to welcome us rather than just leave a key made such a difference. You were always there with great advice and suggestions if needed, but never intrusive. Jude, the meal you cooked for us was the best meal we had all week - absolutely superb!  We have some great memories of a fabulous holiday, and hope to visit again.
