The Lodela French Barge was built in 1930 as a commercial barge and worked mainly in north of France. It has now been comfortably renovated and offers a nice and unforgettable gite. The peniche Lodela offers its clients an original place to live on water and a personal attention provided by its owner, Valérie and Hugues. You will not be disappointed. The boat is moored between Trèbes and Carcassonne on the majestic Canal du Midi in the sunny Languedoc region in South of France.

It is located in the beautiful wine growing region of the Minervois, between the stunning slopes of the Montagne Noire and the Mediterranean Sea with a magnificent natural back-drop of the great Pyrenees. The area is ideal for exploring on bicycles, which are provided for four persons and for car and canal boat excursion. N.B.: Contact the owner for cruising.

About the location

The boat is set in the department of the Aude in the Languedoc region of the South of France. Situated only an hour and a half from the Spanish border, the peniche is on the majestic Canal du Midi, close to the famous Cité de Carcassonne.

Things to do and see in the area:

• The Canal du Midi Work classified in the Patrimony fo the Humanity by the UNESCO, the Canal du Midi, built by the biterrois Pierre Paul Riquet in 1680, crosses all western Languedoc Roussillon to join the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. With its length of 240 km and its 65 locks, it represents the most beautiful and the most different landscapes of the region. Carcassonne, the medieval.
• The city of Carcassonne, one of the most extraordinary sites registered by the UNESCO to the world patrimony of humanity. The Aude department and the Canal du Midi separate the town - built in the XIIIth century and restored in the XIXth century by Viollet le Duc - from the low city.
• The Cathar Castles - the cathar city of Minerve is one of the most extraordinary sites. Indeed, this city witnessed the cathar drama, which makes of it a fantastic and mysterious place to admire.
• Gruissan - fishing Harbour and beach leading onto huge sea etang, lakes, with fishing villages and a Safari Zoo.
• Narbonne - The magnificent Cathedral towers over the town, once the capital of the Roman province of Narbonensis. It is the home of the truly remarkable century old, indoor food market called Les Halles, France at the centre of its gastronomic best, the home of culinary refinement.
• A place for fine wine - Languedoc-Roussillon produces wine in abundance - it has the largest production of any area in Europe.
• Running through the centre is the Canal du Midi, the region also benefits from several national parks and the peaks of the Pyrenees which form part of the course of the Tour de France.
