La Sauvagère is a beautiful, traditional Manor house built in the 1800’s, set in rolling countryside. Improved and updated, the accommodation offers modern amenities but with the authentic atmosphere of rural France.
The spacious and versitile accommodation sleeps up to 12.
This beautiful property offers you the chance to really experience living the dream.
The 12 sleeper accommodation comprises:
There are 2 patio areas for enjoying al fresco meals or if you prefer you can move under the shade of the trees in our large parkland garden – the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine and maybe some of the excellent local cheeses – the choice is yours.
La Sauvagère is situated on the outskirts of the sleepy French village of Allonne in the Poitou-Charentes Region of South West France - reputed to be one of the sunniest regions, second only to the Côte d’Azur!
We are just 15 minutes away from the historic medieval town of Parthenay.
The property sits in 3 acres of land including peaceful parkland garden, open paddocks and orchards. In the summer you can cool off in our pool.
Hidden away in the tranquillity of beautiful rural France you are sheltered from the hustle and bustle but close enough to major towns, theme parks and seaside resorts if you choose to explore.
Set in beautiful rolling hills and valleys with woodland and lakes, this area has been likened to the Cotswolds and Somerset but with the advantages of better weather and no crowds! What better place to enjoy your country pursuits be it walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing or nature-watching. Maybe you fancy a round of golf at the beautiful course at Mazieres-en-Gatine, just 10 minutes drive away – the club house is an old chateau. This area is also a great base for house-hunting with many properties for sale at a fraction of UK costs.
We are situated approximately 12km south west of Parthenay, 35km north of Niort and 45km west of Poitiers, ideally placed for whatever you desire from this beautiful region.
Allonne – within strolling distance of La Sauvagère, Allonne is a typical sleepy French village with a bar/restuarant and medieval church. Start your morning by walking to the village to pick up your french baguettes.
Secondigny (just 5 minutes away) boasts a good sized supermarket shops, bars, banks and petrol station. It has a beautiful lake with a sandy beach with childrens play area and activities such as pedalos, fishing, walking or picnicking under the trees plus a lido centre with swimming pool. A bar/restaurant overlooks the lake and is the ideal place for the parents to chill with a glass of wine while the children play.
Parthenay - rich in medieval and romanesque architecture, Parthenay offers all the qualities expected of a market town. Wander through the narrow pedestrianised shopping streets, take in a coffee at one of the typical French cafes or something stronger in a bar of your choice. And do not miss the opportunity to dine in the wide choice of restaurants offering excellent cuisine to suit all tastes and budgets. Take the opportunity to visit the weekly market and sample the local produce and maybe buy some cheese and wine for a picnic on the banks of the river Thouet.
Niort – a great town for shopping with its daily market filled with wonderfully fresh seafood and patisseries. If you meander around the beautiful shops you will find all the French designer labels at prices much lower than on the boulevards of Paris. While you are here, why not stop for lunch at one of the many restaurants.
The Marais Poitevin – a strange, lazy landscape of meadows and fens and crisscrossed by an elaborate system of canals, dykes and slow-flowing rivers. It is known as “La Venise Verte” – the Green Venice – and it is possible to see the local farmers travel through the marshes in flat-bottomed punts. The best way to really experience the Wet Marsh is on a boat trip. Alternatively you can explore by miniature train which leaves from Coulon.
La Rochelle – on the coast with its old fortified port and hidden streets lined with arcades, La Rochelle is a town popular with painters. It is often described as the most attractive and unspoilt seaside town in France.
