Home description

Steeped in history this elegant and stylish provincial french town house offers you a warm welcome, and a comfortable stay, whether you are breaking your journey for one night on your way to or from the channel ports, or plan to spend a few days getting away from the trials and tribulations of modern life by exploring the beautiful countryside and coast of Brittany and Normandy.

The Old Apothecary House was built in 1859 and occupies a prominent place in the main square of St. Georges de Reintembault, overlooking the site of the small weekly street market that is held here every Thursday morning. The oval shaped breakfast room, situated on the ground floor at the front of the house, used to be the village apothecary's shop and still retains some of the charm and atmosphere of that ancient pharmacie. Breakfast here in style, with home made jams and preserves and bread and croissants freshly baked that morning at the boulangerie across the square.

Behind the old shop lies a typical French Town House with high ceilings and large windows. The curved wooden staircase to the first floor is original, as is the wooden flooring in each of the bedrooms, and both play a large part in giving the house its unique character and sense of history. The house has a quiet and tranquil atmosphere, as if time has been kind to it down the ages. The courtyard at the rear of the house leads onto a beautiful walled garden with a small terrace, magnolia lawn, rose garden and several fruit trees, a haven of peace and seclusion that you are free to enjoy.

The Apothecary House does not offer evening meals but we do have a barbecue that you are welcome to use if you fancy dining al-fresco in the garden.

We look forward to welcoming you into our home.
