Comfortable Cottage In Pretty Village With Roof Terrace And Countryside Views

La Terrasse is a little house dating back to the 1800`s which has been renovated to give a very high standard of comfortable accommodation throughout the year for couples who want something special. After your arrival you will feel the stress and strains of life pass you by as you slip into a slower and more natural pace of life. This is the charm of Le Vivier.

The house stands in an elevated position in the pretty village of Le Vivier. The private south facing roof terrace gives lovely open views over unspoiled countryside, down to the pretty church and up to the 16th century chateau which is floodlit after sunset. Parking is about 50 mts away.

Nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees, but within an hours drive from Perpignan, Le Vivier is set in the heart of the stunning wine producing area of the Fenouilledes, offering a huge selection of wines from  local "caves"  with owners who are always willing to allow you to try before you buy.

Surrounded by superb scenery and steeped in the history of the Cathars and thier amazing cliff top castles,  the mysteries of Rennes le Chateaux, the scenic Gorge de Galamus and the amazing Roman aqueduct, the region offers plenty in the way of interest and beauty .

Le Vivier is perfectly placed for people who want to escape and enjoy the simple pleasures in life, such as walking, bird watching, relaxing with a good book, or sightseeing but close enough for those who want to try more challenging of activities.

About Le Vivier in Pyrénées-Orientales, Languedoc Roussillon

Le Vivier is dominated by the old chateau which stands guard over the village dating back to the 16th century. It is surrounded by the unspoiled countryside of the Fenouilledes region. The scenery is simply stunning and dramatic lending its self to offer excellent walking and bird watching right on your doorstep. The village is quiet and sleepy, after being here for a couple of days you cant help but slip into the slow and easy pace of village life. England could not feel further away.

The bread van delivers bread to the square twice a week and the butchers van also comes once a week. The pizza van arrives each thursday evening between 6 and 9 pm . The village has a crazy golf, tennis court and a stream running by which has been blocked to create a plan d`eau for a swimming and  picnic area.

The village of Fosse is less than 3kms away and you can enjoy the large open air pool during July and August.

The village of Caudies is under 15 mins drive and here you will find a restaurant and a  bar where food is served and , they are  open all year. There is a small supermarket, boulangerie, butchers, doctors, post office and  chemist .

St Paul has a large supermarket with deli, butchers and fish counter. There is a petrol station, various bars, cafes and restaurants, a bank, boulangerie, chemist, doctors, hairdressers, post office, butchers and cinema and it has a weekly open-air market on Saturdays.

St Martin is only a few minutes drive away and has a very friendly Auberge which serves good food all year.

Prats de Sournia is 4kms away from Le Vivier and like Fosse has an open air pool during the high season and there is a small bar also.

The coast is about 1hr 10 mins drive, where miles and miles of sandy beaches can be found along with the usual water sports and  swimming in the warm seas of the Mediterranean.

The cosmopolitan city of Perpignan is approx 1 hr away. During the summer months it hosts all sorts of attractions from jazz and music festivals to street fairs and art exhibitions. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from as well as some very nice shops that you would expect to find in such an up and coming city.

Guest Reviews Of La Terrasse

Nick Tingay
6/2/11

Such a beautiful house. Our favourite evenings have been spent here cooking in the kitchen and eating on the terrace with nothing but peace and quiet. One food recommendation however is definitely the Auberge at Saint Martin - a no frills little place with the menu set but, good food and such friendly staff. For the beach. Port Vendres plage further south than Port Vendres. A great week and highly recommended hideout. Thanks.
