• Bathroom - large fully-equipped room with bath, toilet and wash hand basin.

About the location

Brantôme (pop. 2,100), which is known as the Venice of the Dordogne, lies in the beautiful Dromme valley. The town has an abbey which was founded in 769, in the reign of Charlemagne, rebuilt in the 11th C. and altered in the 19th. In the nearby Château de Richemont (16th C.) Pierre de Bourdeille, Seigneur de Brantôme, wrote his "Vies des Dames Galantes". The oldest part of the abbey is the free-standing bell-tower of the church (11th C.), which stands on a rocky crag.

The abbey now houses the Musée Fernand-Desmoulin, with works by the artist of that name (born in Périgord in 1835) and archeological finds from the surrounding area. Brantôme has a host of exceptional restaurants and shops.

Many places of interest nearby include Château de Richemont Home of the Abbots of Brantôme. The village of Villars offers three attractions; the Château de Puyguilhem, the Abbaye de Boschaud and the prehistoric caves at the Grotte de Villars.

Bourdeilles just further downstream from Brantôme, has a 16th Century Renaissance Château built alongside the earlier 12th Century Fortress. Mareuil-sur-Belle, a market town, has a variety of bars and restaurants as well as a good selection of shops.

Périgueux, 20 minutes away, is the principal city of the region and has much to offer in the way of sophisticated shopping and fine dining to suit all tastes and pockets. The markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays are an absolute must. Château de Hautefort, Sarlat, Bergerac and Cognac are all within 'day-trip' distance as is the fabulous pilgrimage to the vineyards of Bordeaux.

How to get here

Brantome is 1 hour and 10 minutes from Limoges airport which is served by direct flights to London Stansted and Liverpool with Ryanair, or 1.5 hour drive from Bordeaux. The nearest SNCF station in Angouleme which is about 56kms from Brantome.

Additional price information

There is a cleaning charge of €50 payable at the end of your holiday.

We can arrange a baby sitting service if you provide us with advance notice. The baby sitter is a local lady who has worked with us for a number of years.

Her charge is €10 per hour and you pay her directly. Please ask for more information
