About the location

Painblanc is a small farming village 26kms north west of Beaune and 45 kms from Dijon, set in rolling countryside in the Auxois area of Burgundy. The area around Painblanc typically comprises 'bocage' - fields bordered by hedgerows and woodland and is easy to explore by car, bike or on foot. The varied landscape includes limestone cliffs, lakes, the Burgundy Canal, extensive deciduous woods and small-scale, mixed farming. The area  is rich in flora and fauna - fields and roadsides abound in wild flowers in Spring and early Summer; owls, red kite, buzzards, wild boar, deer, etc. are common sights.

Beaune, a beautiful, medieval town, is the capital of Burgundy wine and is a centre for wine-tasting and good food. There are a colourful Saturday morning market, attractive walks on the ramparts and around the town plus varied and interesting shops. Towns and sites such as Chalon-sur-Saone, Vezelay, Autun, Cluny, and the Abbaye de Fontenay are within a comfortable day's touring. There is a wealth of chateaux, Romanesque churches, museums and other historic sites. As Burgundy is renowned for its cuisine, there are many excellent restaurants.

Painblanc is an excellent base for visiting the  Burgundy vineyards of the Cotes de Nuits and the Cotes de Beaune which include the famous wine-producing villages of Pommard, Volnay, Nuits St. George, Gevrey Chambertin, Puligny Montrachet, Meursault etc.

See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and facilities.

How to get here

Painblanc is 16 kms from the A6 motorway junction at Pouilly-en- Auxois and 28 kms from the A6 Beaune junction. The village lies 1 km east of the D970 between the small market towns of Pouilly-en- Auxois to the north-west and Bligny-sur-Ouche to the south.

Dijon and Beaune have railway stations with direct links to Eurostar stations and international airports. At present Lyon and Charles de Gaulle in Paris are the nearest international airports. A new London - Dijon air link is proposed in the near future.

The approximate car travel time from Calais, Boulogne  or Le Havre is 6 hours.

See Local guide and map for information on nearby towns and airports.
