This 19th century farm and winery has been totally and sympathetically renovated to an exceptionally high standard and incorporates all new furniture and fixtures.

Comprising kitchen/diner/lounge with a winding staircase leading to the two airy bedrooms both with en-suite shower rooms and toilet. All rooms take advantage of  the views and natural light.

Ground Floor:

• Kitchen area - with exposed stone walls and beams, tiled and fully equipped - oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and all equipment & utensils.
• Living area - dining table, chairs and comfortable sofas. TV, DVD/CD and to keep in touch with the outside world. Wi-Fi broadband is available.

The staircase leads to:

First Floor:

• Bedroom 1 - Light and airy with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, has a king size bed, wardrobe and shelved cupboard. En suite bathroom with tiled shower, washbasin and toilet.
• Bedroom 2 - Views across valley, vaulted ceiling, has twin beds and wardrobe. En suite bathroom with tiled shower, washbasin and toilet.

Exterior

The winery leads onto its own large private sun terrace of antiqued flagstones giving onto stunning views with exceptional sunsets. Tables, chairs, sunloungers and parasols ensure a special place to relax, surrounded by garden, fruit trees and vegetable garden. Covered shaded area, barbecue, bouledrome, private access and parking.

About the location

Only a one hour drive from the airports of Toulouse and Rodez and just 2 hours from Carcassonne. Your holiday will be enjoyed in an area of outstanding beauty, traversed by riverways and blessed by very quiet roads which network into the main motorway systems for the Mediterranean or Atlantic coasts and Spain.

Nestled on the outskirts of a hamlet the gite is only 3 miles from Cordes sur Ciel, or the village of Cahuzac sur Vere, where all shopping facilities, tourist offices, garages, banks, doctors, dentists, pharmacies can be found. Albi, the historic home of Toulouse Lautrec, with its magnificent cathedral is less than 30 minutes by car.

The local market town of Gaillac, centre of the wine region, has all required facilities and is a 15 minute drive. Toulouse, Castres and Carcassonne offer more places of interest, culture, and entertainment. The medieval bastide villages are only a short drive away.

Sight-seeing:

Not to be missed are the numerous unspoilt historic villages, dating back to 13th century, which are within easy reach, notably:

• Puycelsi
• Bruniquel
• Cordes sur Ciel
• Najac

All of which are exceptional in their architecture and locations and offering musical concerts, historic events, and many other cultural activities.

St Antonin Noble Val is another attractive medieval town with an excellent Sunday morning market.

Albi, capital of the Tarn, boasts the impressive St Cecille Cathedral, museums, theatre, exclusive shopping, street markets and cultural centre.

Further afield, (1 hour) through the Tarn Gorge and into the department of the Aveyron, one finds the world renowned, breathtaking Millau Bridge. En route one can pause to savour the delights of Roquefort cheese.

Cuisine:

The area hosts exellent restaurants, ranging in price, offering "plat du jour", evening meals and Sunday Lunch. The region is renowned for its cuisine and local dishes.

With over 150 vignerons to choose from, wine tasting can be enjoyed throughout the Gaillac AOC "terroir".

How to get here

Situation:

Les Maillets is easily found near the D922 Cordes/Gaillac road. Your hosts will forward a detailed map and instructions on booking.

By Air:

Toulouse, Carcasonne and Rodez airports are within an easy drive. Car hire is available at all three. Your hosts operate a collection/return facility should you require this.

By Road:

The main motorways from the northern ferry ports are nearby, and the onward journey is on main RN or departmental roads.
