This characterful Flemish-style Farmhouse is situated in the tranquil grounds of the beautiful Chateau de Bambecq. As a guest you have the use of the fifteen acres of park and woodland, which is also a wild-life sanctuary.

Less than an hour's drive from Calais, Dunquirk and Boulogne-sur-Mer, the Chateau is quickly and easily reached from England, being somewhat closer to London than to Paris! Set in an area where there is much to do and see for all ages, and with weather very similar to that of South-East England.

Built around 1820, the Bambecq Farmhouse was completely refurbished in 2006. Accommodation is as follows:

• Large, airy reception room with lovely views of the park, farm courtyard and manege, an area where horse training and jumping regularly takes place. The room features a big rustic-style mantelpiece, dining table for six (which can be extended) and seating area around the fireplace (total of twelve seats).
• Newly appointed kitchen directly off the main reception room.
• Bathroom - towards the back of the farmhouse, with shower and washing machine and separate toilet. 

A period wooden staircase leads to first floor with:

• Master bedroom - with a large double and wonderful views of the park and lake
• Second bedroom - with twin beds, this room looks out over the farm courtyard
• Third bedroom - with a full size bunk bed which adjoins bedroom 2 and has views across the farm courtyard as well.

In the summer we erect a large marquee, which allows for eating outside, whatever the weather.

For autumn/winter use, the Farmhouse has oil-fired central heating.

About the location

Bambecq Farmhouse is situated on the eastern edge of the village of Racquinghem, which is one the main N43. We are close to the cathedral city of Saint-Omer to the north, and Aire-sur-la-Lys to the South. There are many excellent restaurants in the area, as well as the 'Moulain de la Barne' a great Routier (transport stop) with delicious food at bargain prices.

Being centrally placed on a north-facing peninsular in the English channel, the vast, clean and picturesque beaches (nearly 200 miles) are less than an hour away. There are many war-time sites to visit, as this region was much fought over during both World Wars. In addition, there is the Crystalerie at Arques, just minutes away, museums, the Aquarium at Boulogne and many picturesque towns and villages.

For those who like French antiques and bric-a-brac, there are many local 'Depot Vente' (sale rooms), Antiques emporia, huge charity warehouses, as well as a seven-month season of brocantes, which starts in early Spring. These are street sales, held in just about every town and village in the region. Here you can find everything from household bric-a-brac to genuine antiques. We keep a detailed directory of all these events - up to 40 each weekend in the height of the season.
