Home description

Les Vieilles Ombres is a former Cognac estate located in the ancient village of Bagnizeau. Surrounded by two acres of walled grounds it is the ideal place for a relaxing holiday or if you prefer you can sample some of the local activities that are available in the surrounding area.

The location is ideal for you to travel around the Charente and Charente Maritime departments.  If you are feeling energetic then we have bikes to help you explore the glorious Charentaise countryside.  You will find the fields full of vines used to make Cognac and Pineau, the local aperitif, and the wonderful Charentais wine.  Come at the right time of year and you will see the sunflowers in full bloom which can provide you with some stunning pictures.

If all you want to do is relax in a tranquil setting we have a large heated swimming pool and terrace for you to enjoy. Or you can take a stroll down to the village park and enjoy a game of tennis or just a walk along the river.  We have a boules pitch in the garden for you to enjoy along with a combined swing, slide and seesaw.  In the hangar, which can offer some welcome shade for the children,  there is a table tennis table and football table 

All of our gites have recently been refurbished to a very high standard and offer you the comforts of home.

Le Tournesol is a one bedroom detached gite situated all on one level with spacious rooms and typical long French windows making it a very light gite.

• Lounge has a sofa bed which would be ideal for children or adults enabling this gite to take a maximum of four people.
• Fully fitted kitchen with a dining area to seat four people.
• Bathroom is fitted with luxury shower and toilet.
• Bedroom has a lovely large king sized bed with lots of storage

As all the rooms are on one level this gite is ideal for either children or the elderly who are unable to manage stairs.   

There is a patio area to the side of the gite for you to sit and enjoy the sunshine or even a barbecue.

About the location

Les Vieilles Ombres, a former Cognac estate is situated in the small ancient village of Bagnizeau which has around two hundred residents. Less than five minutes drive away is the town of Matha which has a wide variety of shops including supermarkets and banks.

There are also a few restaurants to be found here with many more in the towns and villages as you drive around the area.

We are in an ideal location to travel around the Charente deparments as within 1/2 an hours drive you have the towns of Cognac and Jarnac where you will find all the famous names associate with Cognac and the aperitif Pineau.

The historic town of Saintes with its bustling streets and glorious shops and restaurants is worth a visit and of course the quaint St Jean D'Angeley must not be missed. Local markets are held throughout the week. 

In Poitiers there is the famous Futurscope Park which can be reached in approximately one hour.
