Where is it

Charente
 

La Petite Maison is a beautiful newly restored gite in the grounds of an English owned Charentais farmhouse, set on top of a hill enjoying superb views over the Charente countryside.

Situated in a rural location between Angoulême and Limoges the stone cottage enjoys seclusion in our 10 acre grounds and yet is not isolated - we are only 4kms from Chasseneuil (good for basic shopping), and 15kms from medieval Rochefoucauld, with it's outstanding 11th century chateau and chocolaterie.

The cathedral city of Angoulême, with its cobbled streets full of cafes and restaurants, is only 36kms away, and if you prefer something a little more energetic, Lake Lavaud, with it's beach and water sports, is only 15kms west. There is also plenty of walking, fishing and cycling available.

Accommodation detail

The cottage consists of a lounge, 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom, an open plan kitchen and dining area, shower room and separate WC.

Outside there is a terrace with garden furniture, complete with a pergola and stone barbeque to enjoy our lovely sunny evenings. The terrace leads down to a 10m x 5m pool (depth 1.2m - 1.7m) with roman steps. The pool, which is shared with the owners, is fenced for safety.

There is also a large utility room at the back of our house, which has a washing machine, iron, etc.

The cottage sleeps six but a cot could easily be fitted into either of the double rooms. We can supply a cot and a highchair if required.

About the location

We are just outside the village of Suaux, on the N141 Angoulême to Limoges Road, in the Charente region of France.

How to get here

By Car
If you take the ferry or chunnel to Calais you will have around a 6 hour drive, a lot of it on Autoroutes or other good roads. You can obviously use any of the other channel ports, some of which are closer, but the journey time will be longer as the roads are not so fast.

By Air
Limoges airport is only a 45 minute drive, and is served by Ryanair and Flybe on a daily basis. Some great bargains can be had!

Limoges is served by four of the major hire car companies.

By Train
You can take the Eurostar to Paris, and then transfer to the TGV to Angoulême. There you can pick up a hire car, or we are only a 15 minute taxi ride away.
