About the location

The old farmhouse of Chapelle is situated on a small ridge between the villages of St. Maurice de Lestapel and Segalas. Its elevated location affords views in all directions. The surrounding countryside is mainly plum orchards, arable land and woodland. The woods and fields are criss crossed with bridleways and footpaths and are a delightful way to explore the peaceful landscape.

The valleys of the Dordogne and Vezere with their prehistoric cave sites and stunning castles, are fascinating places to visit. These rivers and the River Lot to the south, have carved impressively deep canyons as they flow west through the limestone plateau to the sea. They also offer opportunities to sample the river fish or take a cooling dip!

The local town, Castillones, is a ‘bastide’ settlement, set high on a hill commanding views over the surrounding countryside. The town is built around an ancient square (where the market is held). Many of the nearby towns hold weekly markets, where one can sample the delicious and varied local produce; cheeses, foie gras, wines, prunes (some chocolate coated!) fruits and vegetables and so much more. If you don’t wish to buy, you can simply sit in one of the street cafes, sample an aperitif of the region and watch the world go by!

For more sophisticated shopping there are the historic towns of Bergerac and Villeneuve. Bordeaux is a fascinating city with an attractive ancient heart, well worth a visit. On the way, take a break in the vineyards of St. Emilion and taste the best of local wines. Chapelle is ideally located for any wine enthusiast to compare the produce of vineyards of Bergerac, Bordeaux, Cahors, Duras and many others.

How to get here

Motorways from the channel ports mean that Chapelle can be reached with a car journey of 9 or 10 hours (allowing for stops).

TGV rail access to Libourne and then local train or car hire is less tiring, fast and efficient.

Cheap air flights from various U.K. airports serve Bergerac (30mins to Chapelle), Bordeaux and Toulouse. Car hire is available from each of these airports.

Stayed at La Chapelle end of July, beginning of August for a week with 3 children, 2 of them teenagers. The house was in a beautiful, tranquil location, surrounded by sunflowers and plums. It was a very quiet location, an occasional tractor and that was about it.

The house was really lovely inside as well as out.  The kitchen was extremely well equipped, the owners had thought of everything. We particularly enjoyed both the outside terrace and the covered terrace in the evening. The fenced pool area was great - a good depth and size for our family.  Lots of sun chairs to sit on and particularly appreciated the shaded area, as we were lucky enough to have very hot weather. Nearest well stocked supermarket was about 10-15 minutes away.

A great spot for a relaxing, get away from it all holiday. Our only complaint is that we were only there for a week!

"I like the swimming pool and riding my bike in the garden." Henry aged 3.

"I think that this holiday house is amazing. I liked the great big garden, the plum trees and the swimming pool." Jack aged 5.

"Chapelle is in a truly tranquil location. Both the house and the grounds are lovely. The house is well equipped and worked perfectly for us as a family with three young children. It felt like a home from
home and we had a very happy time. The children (aged 1, 3 and 5) thoroughly enjoyed playing in the enclosed garden. They played cricket, flew kites and rode their bikes. We all enjoyed the swimming
pool. The shallow steps in were great for the children and there is plenty of space both for family games and for some serious swimming.

The owners were very helpful in ensuring we had all the information we needed before travelling. We highly recommend Chapelle and hope to go again."
