Beautiful 15th Century Scenic Hilltop House

This peaceful 15th Century stone-built hilltop house has been sensitively restored keeping a feel of its history but adding just enough of the modern to make you comfortable.

Set in 5 acres of terraced meadows, orchard and woodland with stunning views across the hills of the Cevennes National Park, forested with pines and chestnut, it is secluded, but not isolated.

The house sleeps 8 people

• The large salon - is the hub of the house, the focus for dining and relaxing and boasts an old long chestnut dining table which seats 10 and fireplace with a sofa and comfortable chairs.
• The kitchen - also has a dining table, although we prefer to have our breakfast on the terrace with fresh croissant and baguette from the boulangerie while we watch the hawks swooping in the valley and marvel at the scenery.
• 5 bedrooms - 1 Double, 2 Twin and 2 Single bedrooms
• 2 bathrooms
• Separate shower room

It is well equipped with a washing machine and large freezer (uesful for all those ice lollies!)

The house is cleaned once per week and clean bed linen is provided weekly, all included in the price of the rent.

About Peyremale in Gard, Languedoc Roussillon

The Cevennes National park is an extraordinarily diverse wilderness, from Mont Lozere (1700m) with its subalpine meadows and bare limestone escarpments to the hot and lush lowlands, it is home to over 400 protected species of flora and a variety of wildlife that no longer exists in intesnely farmed and over-populated Britain.

Whether your choice is for an active holiday exploring 1800kms of marked footpaths or canoeing down the crystal clear waters of the Ceze or whether you prefer to sit on the terrace with a glass of the rich, purple, teeth-staining vin de region, Mercoire is the perfect base.

The Roman towns of Avignon, Arles and Nîmes not only boast archeological wonders but their beautiful historic centres offer the best in eating, drinking and shopping.

There are small charming markets and restaurants in every local town, offering freshly cooked food to traditional Cevennes recipes. Famous for its cheese and meat dishes, the Cevennes also borders some the finest wine producing areas of the Rhone valley, allowing you to sample some the local wines such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueras and Gigondas at ridiculously low prices.

How To Get To Peyremale in Gard, South of France and the Riviera

Mercoire is in the Department of Gard, 15 miles north of Alès, between Peyremale and Portes.

By Car:
If you drive all the way, the actual driving time from Calais should be 10 hours, approx. 635 miles.

By Air:
Daily flights from Stansted to Montpellier and from Luton to Nimes. Hiring a car, the journey will take around 1½ hours from Montpellier or 1 hour from Nimes.

By Rail:
The Eurostar runs direct services from London to Avignon in 7 hours or to Nîmes changing at Lille, also taking 7 hours. Hiring a car, the house is about an hour from Nîmes and 2½ Hours from Avignon.
