Home description

A delightful house that is fully equipped in the centre a quiet picturesque village of Lusigny-sur-Ouche. An ideal base for exploring the delights of Burgundy.

Lusigny is a picturesque, stone built village, featuring several lavoirs (washhouses) lying in the upper part of the beautiful Ouche valley, approximately 17 kilometres (10 miles) north west of Beaune. The village has a private chateau, an auberge and riverside park. It is surrounded by wooded hills and meadows which contain a wealth of wild life. There are a variety of interesting walks that can be taken from the house. For the more energetic there are many cycling routes.

The cottage is situated in the heart of Lusigny sur Ouche an attractive village and  looks over an old stone bridge over the river. It faces east and enjoys the sun in the morning and on both the private patio and garden areas later in the day.

The property is fully equipped and has recently been rewired and refurbished to a high standard. The cottage is suitable for couples including those with one or two small children. A couple and an adult could also easily stay in the cottage using the landing bed.

The house is built in a traditional stone style and has been renovated to provide excellent accommodation that comprises:

Ground floor 

• Kitchen
• Sitting room is spacious with a flagstone floor and a log burning stove set in a traditional fireplace.

First floor

The first floor is reached, from a secluded rear patio, by an external covered staircase to a balcony which is an interesting feature of the house.

• Bedroom
• Bathroom

Outside

The patio and raised garden area with barbecue provide for outdoor eating.

About the location

Bligny-sur-Ouche is a small market town two kilometres down the valley and within easy walking distance. The facilities include; 2 supermarkets, banks, a bakery, a chemist, newsagent/gift shop, hotels and restaurants. There is also a limited range of tourist information and a small market on Wednesday mornings. In the summer a steam railway provides trips down the valley.

Also close at hand are:

Beaune (15 minutes) A historic walled city with the magnificent Hotel Dieu. Being the centre of the wine trade for the region it has many caves and restaurants. In addition there are a wide range of shops and a splendid market on Saturday

Dijon (45 minutes) The capital of Burgundy famous for the palaces of the Dukes of Burgundy. It has a large daily market in Les Halles.

Autun (35 minutes) A former roman city where the Cathedral is well worth a visit.

Burgundy is famous for its wines and cuisine. Visiting the local producers large and small in the many villages of the region is a very enjoyable way to spend a few days. For those interested in history the world famous ancient abbeys of Fontenay and Cluny are little more than an hour away. Closer is the imposing hill top fortress and medieval village of Chateauneuf. As well as walks and cycle rides from the village, the valley of the river Ouche and the Canal de Bourgogne provide an excellent setting for those wishing to go a bit further.

How to get here

• By Car: Lusigny is approximately 5 hours driving time ( excluding stops, excursions and deviations) from Calais by autoroute.
• By Train: A combination of Euro Star and TGV takes you to Beaune or Dijon.
• By Air: There are frequent flights to Lyon which is 1 1/2 hours away by car.
