A traditional village house of charm and character with exposed stone walls, beams, sunny balcony and large garden, Chez Providence B&B is set in the heart of a typical picturesque unspoilt Black Mountain village in the Languedoc, South-West France. It is ideally situated for touring the beautiful, romantic, and fascinating ancient Cathar countryside which has inspired stories of the Holy Grail, where its diversity of scenery constantly surprises.

Relax in comfort with luxury modern facilities there is a spacious comfortable lounge and sunny balcony and large terraced garden - great for barbecues or paellas or relaxing or sun-bathing but with some trees giving welcome shade!

The house is built on the site of the 15th century Chateaux. Many of the walls are over half a metre thick. The sunny balcony looks over the garden and village green down towards the river La Dure and forest beyond. The village has good amenities and is situated in a peaceful valley and centrally placed in the Black Mountains surrounded by forests above the vineyards.

Our village is surround by wood and forest and at nearly 600 metres high pure mountain air. The village has a covered swimming pool or you could swim in our beatiful mountain lakes, walk or horse ride (stables near by) in our ancient woods, visit Cathare castles, and medieval  villages admire the stunning scenery, find nick-nacks at vide de greniers (car boot sales) or stroll through markets or listen to jaz in cafes.

Chambre Rose

This is a spacious yet cosy and romantic bedroom with ensuite shower room and hydro cubicle. Light and airy and tastefuly decorated. The ceilings are painted cream with exposed natural beams, and wooded floors, and exposed stone walls.

About the location

Cuxac-Cabardès is a quiet traditional mountain village and is situated on the road to Mazamet, 25 minutes North-West of Carcassonne, with spectacular mountain scenery and views across the Languedoc to the Pyrenees within a few minutes drive. The village has a bar restaurant (friendly and serving excellent food), a well stocked general store and a first class traditional baker. In addition, it boasts a butcher, pharmacy, hair dresser, dentist, post office, estate agent and notaire. Once a week, in the village square, a vegetable van and a fish monger visit, and on Monday evening a pizza van can be found by the river (his pizzas are superb). A children's adventure playground and an all-weather swimming pool are within a few minutes walk and there is a doctors surgery nearby.

At Carcassonne, nestled in the heart of the Cathar country, you will find the world's most beautifully restored medieval 'Cite', or you can cruise on the 300-year-old Canal du Midi - both World Heritage sites.

Toulouse - only an hour'and a half drive away - is France's fourth largest city and boasts many elegant shops and art museums. The same journey in the opposite direction takes you to the sandy mediterranean beaches of Narbonne.

How to get here

Air links direct to Carcassonne by Ryanair from London Stanstead, Dublin, Shannon, East Midlands, Liverpool and Brussels. Cuxac-Cabardès is about 25 minutes drive from the Airport.

Toulouse airport is only an hour and a half away. This is served by a number of operators including British Airways and Easyjet from Gatwick, British Airways and Air France from Heathrow and a variety of airlines fly from regional airports to this location. Take the A62 then A61 Autoroute following signs to Montpellier (sorry - toll to pay - but if you can spare the time, the N113 takes longer, but it is free) - exit at Junction 23.

Just follow signs to Mazamet - this will take you to the D118 through the villages of Villemoustaussou and Villegailhenc, then through the wine fields and up into the forest, where you will see Cuxac-Cabardès clearly signed. After passing the sign and before the estate agent, turn left into the village.
