The middle of nowhere never looked so good!

Come get away from it all in this unique site for your holiday pleasure. La Maillerie is a restful retreat from the everyday, offering three well equipped and tastefully decorated gites in a 17th Century watermill. It is hard to believe that the village of Busserolles is a mere 100 meters down the lane, as the property has the feel of being in the countryside.

Though rustic in appearance, the gites are both spacious (181m2, 151m2 and 111m2 respectively) and comfortably furnished. The creature comforts do not stop there as you may also book spa services such as reflexology treatments (nearby) and massage (on-site).

Private terraces give onto a dramatic back garden that features "God's Rockery", a collection of ancient stone, woods and cascading water that will leave you longing to return again and again.

An ever-flowing stream runs from the cascade and alongside the property, and you will enjoy the deep calm of the 1.2 hectares of woodland as well as a large pool with a view of the village's 12th-century church.

• Two twin bedrooms - each with two single beds
• Bathroom - with a shower and a toilet

Outside

At the sunside there is a private terrace with garden furniture and a barbecue.

About the location

La Maillerie gites complex is a mere 100 meters down a quiet lane from the sleepy village of Busserolles. There are several market towns within half an hour's drive (Piegut, Nontron), and chateaux within an hour's drive. The nearest coastal resort is La Rochelle, some two and a half hours distant.

There are several restaurants within 15 minute's drive, two of them serving exceptional lunches for approximately 10 Euros per person (L'Auberge Gourmand and La Lanterne in Chatain Besson and Roussines, respectively).

How to get here

If one takes the overnight Portsmouth ferry to Caen, it is about a 6 hour drive from there, with the nearest large road being the 699. Carriers such as RyanAir come directly from London Stansted to Limoges, where a car can be rented, and from there it is approximately 45 minutes of scenic drive. Taking the Eurostar and then TGV, the station to arrive in is at Angouleme, where again a car can be rented, and a 45-minute drive ensues.

With sufficient notice, and depending on the number in the party, we can meet you in either Limoges or Angouleme, and provide transport to our property, then arrange a car from the local Peugeot dealership, with favorable terms and rates.
